First post, just wanted to share something I noticed.

I remember in the past year or two buying LEs for about $12-14. Now everytime it's $15-17, while only a few bucks it seems like a big rise for such little time.

The biggest notice just hit me when I looked at the Bighero6 puzzle set coming out.

It's a mystery puzze box set, with 1 pin, that will sell for $16.99($17). While just late last year, maybe 5-6 months ago, the lady & tramp puzzle set was released as a mystery box set at $12.99 each.

For side note comparison, the L&T were LE 900 with LE 600 chasers. The Bighero6 are LE 1100 with LE600 chasers.

Just curious how others feel. Really wanted the BigHero6 puzzle set, but not sure given its price.

I would wait a few months til people the bought them no longer want them and then sell for cheap. :)

The problem with this, is that by then our least favorite Ebay sellers will be selling them and you won't know which ones came from Disney and which ones came from elsewhere.

Most prices are also based by cost, Disney increased prices this year especially LEs. Puzzle mystery pin boxes were at cost 12.99 before, and with different quantity LE and chasers for each series, guessing it's what they feel is popular. Seems the hard part is actually completing any mystery groups lately. The puzzles being LE and limited at time of purchase to 2 doesn't help. Hopefully BH6 will be a nice, but pricey set!

The increase in prices certainly make me question my desire to purchase. Pin collecting has always been an expensive hobby, especially for those individuals that live further away from the Magic, so this further squeeze on finances is concerning for me.

I, too, have noticed this rise in retail prices! I started going to DSF in 2014 when pins were around $10-$12 but now they are closer to $20 :// It really adds up! Same with WDI/MOG

I can say that in the last two years since I've been buying, the standard assortment from MOG has gone from 16.95$ a pin to 22.95$ each. Granted a lot of them are pin-on-pin, or hinged and hefty, and no employee discount is applicable to Imagineering exclusive merch, but yep. The price of enamel is rising!

Yes I’ve noticed the same. I most recently noticed that the PTDs seem to go in waves for resale. I’ve seen the Robin PTD go for as much as $65 and as little as $24. For set pricing by sellers I’ve saw the Scrooge PTD sell a week ago for $35 and since more people have been selling them the prices have dropped to $25 to $30.

I guess thats what members mean by wait a little time and the prices for your grails May drop. Like the most recently released Dark Tales Pins being listed for $1000 in sets of 5 and now some are selling for several hundred dollars instead.

It’s really annoying that non pin collectors have decided to buy the pins solely for the purpose of selling and decide that they’ll buy a large quantity and list them all for 10 times the MSRP. If it’s a rare low edition like a Disney Auctions LE 100, I get it that’s fine. If it’s an LE 300-500 like the PTDs and you want to sell them for $80 + and you’re selling like 10 then shame on you.

It is the saddest part of the hobby. I remember when the vday chocolate box set came out. People were selling them that very day at 350-400 a set. That's four pins that cost $12 each. I recall someone who vent took the pic of the pins in their car so they could get the listing up faster. I think it's is so sad for people to make money off a Disney hobby. They could do they same thing with any number of other things not related to the mouse.

But every hobby has an emotional attachment for someone. There's just as much sentimentality attached to baseball cards for some people.

Although I understand what you are saying, I disagree. They are not the same at all. Disney is a kids entertainment company that most of us have grown up on. They are about happiness and family fun. They may be a big company now but Disney is still and always been about the magic and not just the almighty dollar. Disney fab five do not go to the NBA or the NFL..... Those guys go to Disney. Lol. Ps. I used to be part of a baseball card shop. I know all about that biz and hobby. Also sharks over there but they do not wear sheeps clothing and mouse ears to make a buck. They are up front and in your face about what they are doing.

I feel like pin trading has become much more popular just this year. I feel like so many of the limited editions released at Disneyland sell out the same day. Not just the Windows of Evil. A few years ago I would go and I remember the Best Friends series and the Duets series would be around for months. Even the Earth day pin sold out right away this year! I feel like if they sell out that quickly people can ask for higher prices on eBay

Yeah the prices are a bit rough at times. I feel they don’t release many jumbos at a lower price very often either. What happened to jumbos that were $50? Now they are $75-100+.
