While many of us are bemoaning the cluster craze, it has been mentioned, and I've found it to be true, that if you keep your eyes open during a pin craze you may find someone selling (or trading) a grail pin for a steal of a deal.

So, my question is what pins have you aquired for a song while the pin world was going crazy over a new release?

I have been sitting on my hands the last 2 days, so as not to spend money on pins. It's Denver Comic Con this weekend, so I need to not buy all the pins, and I just did get back from vacation, and I went on the shopping spree splurges I posted on the mail haul thread. But I have started seeing quite a few pins that I am seriously tempted by.

I did buy this Gelatoni pin for $5. It's a LE500

I have the PatF Tiana and Naveen pin from the Disney Store UK coming from a purchase a few days ago. It was my "okay I'm not getting the PatF cluster anytime soon purchase." ;)

Last summer around D23, I purchased the Brave BT, DSSH Merida as a child with Elinor, Merida on Angus, small pin bag, and around 10 other DSSH LE pins for close to what each pin originally cost. It was from one seller, and I was pleased to acquire them.

Fun thread!

Thanks for sharing!

During the first wave of the profile craze I got this one for a song:

And a couple years ago during some PTD insanity I got this one:

Both were on my want-but-more-like-dream-of lists and I snagged them both extremely affordably. :)

What a fun thread!

I certainly paid a lot for it, but the fact that it waited for me at a reasonable (for the popularity and rarity) price for my check to arrive was due to the Heroine release at the time. Maybe some day I'll find the red one...

During D23 I also found that like NO ONE was bidding on pins, I got these two beauties for so cheap. If I hadn't been saving up to move at the time I think I could have gotten so real grail pins. I'm definitely keeping an eye on eBay during the next D23.

That keyhole series was faked a while back - so there used to be a ton of them available quite cheap, unfortunately. Hopefully yours are okay!

Really? That is a bummer. Pinpics doesn't have a warning for those ones. They look very nice to me, but maybe tomorrow I'll snap some pics and post them in the Pin Comparison section to see. Thanks for the heads up!

Pinpics is woefully incomplete in its information unfortunately - when they stopped crowdsourcing their info in order to privatize and try to monetize the site, they lost a lot of regular contributors and as a result they lost a lot of informed contributions.

That is unfortunate. I know I've seen some missing scrapper info there also for fairies pins. Time to do some research I guess. And to be more careful during the next pin craze when I take to eBay for deals :D

I got some insanely low edition size (Like 15 or 25?) Ursula pin for like $50 while people were losing their minds over some DSF release.

In general I got a LOT of rare Ursula pins for very good prices when I first started getting into pins. I think it was just pure dumb luck. Some of those pins that were popping up for $75 or less are now being posted for several hundred, if they're ever posted for sale at all.
