I've been working on an iOS and Android app for quite a while now for keeping track of your Disney Pin collection, wants, and traders. It's been released on both the Apple and Google app stores since July 11th, 2018. If you want to try it out, search for "Collectible PinTrader" in either store. You can either create an account once you download it or you can login as a guest just to see how it works.

We are still working out the logistics, but all images and most of the pin information will be shared with the public under a Creative Commons License. This means that photos and information which are used by the app will be available to the public for whatever use they choose -- including creating another app or website for Disney Pin trading -- as long as they also share their photos and data freely. It's the community's work and it should stay in the community. The link to the shared drive is on the Facebook page, although we haven't yet uploaded any photos/data.

You might want to contact @markheardjr for information regarding this app. He had done/was doing a similar one and Disney nixed it in the butt.

You can find him on Facebook too (same name). He can tell you all about it.

Mark was gracious enough to share the details of his story. It was more a case of Apple keeping him from distributing and less about Disney (although Disney was not helpful). There are a number of things different about the app I'm writing which fall squarely into the fair use category, so I have some confidence that Apple will allow the final release. If they for some reason do not, there is an Android version and I can release a Windows (desktop) version as well.

I don’t suppose there’s any way to use the existing PinPics database, is there? I want to dl the app, but I already have PinPics to catalog and maintain my collection so I’m debating about using the new app..

I would need PinPics permission to use their database and that isn’t something they are going to give. The only solution is to create the entire database again

Right now we are in the early stages of that creation, so we need the community to help with this process. The plan is to export the database on a regular basis to a public location so that the community doesn’t have to go through this again.

Nope. Most definitely a no-no. You should have been here when Disney Pin Place was created and extinguished...that was a sight.

Check with @ryanfury to see if he'll ok you using Pin Trading Database. We don't have as many pins, but we do have over 17,000 pins listed. :D

I'll do that. I was planning on speaking with whoever was the admin for that site (thanks for the contact) once we had enough pins in our database to provide a more equal sharing model. If he's open to something sooner, I'm game. I still haven't written the scripts to export the existing database we have to Google Drive, but that shouldn't take particularly long if I understand the Google Drive stuff correctly.

Wow. What's up with this. Pretty neat stuff. It would be really cool if you could just migrate the pin info from pinpics but we all know the last guy to do that got lawsuit talks.
So the only answer is to recreate a pin database and that's what Ryan has going. We just need to have a few pin get togethers and take photos of all the different traders collections. It would not take long to have what took the whole community years to give to pinpics.

Good luck with this venture and can't wait to read more about it. Please keep us updated.

I tried. I have a google plus account but it says login failure. I don’t have an FB so I guess I’m out. Im assuming if you log in as guest it doesn’t save your pins to the profile?

Correct in that Guest will not allow you to save pins.

I use Google for my login in most of my use/testing, so it works in general. Send me a private note and we can try to figure out what's going on with your situation.

I hooked up with Google too. But first you have to create your CollectiblePinTrader account and then you connect that with Google. At least I think that was how it worked. I tried selecting Google first, but the error message led me to believe that my problem was on the CPT side not the Google side, so then I retried with first creating the account then connecting and it was fine.

1.0.1 has been released.

This release focuses on improvements to searching.
-You may now search by release date
-You may now save searches for later use

To save a search for later use, choose the "Filter" button in the pin search area. Set all of your search parameters and choose the "Saved Filters" tab. Set your search filter name and click "Save".

For example, let's say you want to keep track of which Mushu pins are added to the database that you don't already have. To do this:
1. Go to pin search
2. Click Filter
3. Click the + folder in the "Included Keywords" area
4. Select "Mushu" as a keyword.
5. Disable the "Show Owned" and "Show Wanted" switches.
6. Click to the "Saved Filters" tab
7. Give the filter a name -- say "New Mushu Pins"
8. Click save.

Once you've done this, you can easily reload the filter by going to the "Saved Filters" tab and clicking the "New Mushu Pins" selection.

Note that, depending on the speed of your phone, if you go to the search immediately after loading the app, you may need to wait for the keywords to finish loading. If you attempt to load a filter with a keyword that hasn't yet loaded, the keyword will not be used in your search. I'll be looking at methods to speed up keyword loading so that this is no longer a problem.

Version 1.0.2 has been completed and is available in both apps stores. This version has a number of bug fixes as well as a change to the search tab. The search tab now has two additional sections -- "Featured Searches" and "Saved Searches". The featured searches are for searches that we think that many members will want to use. The saved searches links make it faster to use saved searches.

We also went over 1,000 pins in just under a month :) Keep those submissions coming -- and remember, we will be releasing all photos and most pin information under the Creative Commons License. So when you take the time to add pins to our database, your work will be available to other websites and apps.

Linked to a few pins and submitted a pin in the app. Thought it worked smoothly and the info would be at one's fingertips since its on my phone. Very nice.

Comments:
1) It would be great if the different databases would allow sharing for uploading a pin one time to all...
2) For App: submitting a pin with a searchable description. I am not a fan of typing long strings of words on a phone keyboard (which appears to be the option to add a description in the app). It would be great to upload to pintradingdb.com or the other database from @Pinventory (cute name by the way) and click a button that would share the pin info with this app.

Dare to dream?
