Ive seen this on other sites and its quite effective to get people into the chat when they go to the home page and see oh there is 5 people chatting. Like this:

Forum - Chat Room (5) - Whats New? - iTrader

I think this would add a wonderful plus to this feature. But be warned most sites when they get big get rid of the chat room features because it takes up so much bandwidth space on the server.
 
Hi Chris -- this is definitely something we'd like ot see ourselves and we're working on getting that part up and running :D
