I'm still a pin trading noob and really hadn't heard about the WDI pins until joining DPF. Where and how often are they released? Is it a D23 thing only or do they have special events or a combo of both?

To my knowledge they do a "pop up" store from time to time at D23 events (usually at the one in November). Otherwise it's a CM only thing.

Normally WDI pins are released only to Disney cast members; first in person at the Glendale campus and a few days later online on the cast member hub (so employees in Florida can get them too if they don't sell out first). However, they do release a few WDI sets at D23 events every year.

There are usually two or three releases per month.
 
Good to know I don't have to worry about one more set of pins to track down! Heck, I hadn't even heard of the Disney Soda Fountain Store until this board and now I'm tacking a visit to it on to my July Disneyland/Cali trip. Just like I didn't know I needed these Disney Store 30th Anniversary pins! LOL

Merlin - Great snap from Hogsmeade. I just went with for the first time in January. It was magical. Even if my friend did almost barf on the Forbidden Journey!

Ok,you know how they started to crossover the WDW and DLR hidden mickeys after a while so the DLR show up at WDW ? I wish they would do the same with the HK mickeys. Its not like HMs are going to change anyone's travel plans.

Prior to 2009, WDI and DSF would have popup stores at the Disneyana Fan Club Show and Sale twice a year (Feb and July). They often had limited edition pin releases during these special events. For a while, the Disney Employee Center (cast store at Burbank studio Lot and at the Disney Channel) also had LE pins.
