2025 Pin Discussion & Pin Releases
I think it's all of the above. The 25th anniversary and the surrounding merch - the pins, of course, but along with that, the shirts, the hats, etc. - is creating more awareness for the average guest and is probably drawing in resellers who don't normally sell pins. But we can't discount the effect the Pizzerizzo release on locals in Orlando either. From my understanding, that caught the attention of a lot of locals with no connection with either the pin community or the reselling community and so now you've got a lot people dabbling with reselling pins on eBay or Mercari. Are there more people discovering pins, i.e. 25th stirring a lot of publicity? Lots of FOMO? Resellers? Will we see a glut of pins later back down to normal except for some series? It’s so fascinating to watch this and be a part of it too.
What is the effect of Pizzerizzo? I thought that was a restaurant that got closed in WDW?I think it's all of the above. It was. And there is a monthly pin series this year of restaurants. The one for Pizzerizzo sold out pretty much instantly. And was reselling for a huge markup. About $140 most recently. So people learned there was money to be made in flipping pins. What is the effect of Pizzerizzo? I thought that was a restaurant that got closed in WDW?
Okay, so one of WDW's pin of the month series this year is called "Dining With Disney" with a different restaurant getting its own pin each month. Pizzerizzo was February's Dining with Disney pin, and was released less than a month after Disney's announcement that Muppet*Vision 3D would be closing in June. So you had a situation where an active (and understandably upset & angry) Muppets fandom was already on the lookout for anything Muppets-related to hit the parks + you had resellers poised and ready to scoop up all new Muppets merch (before fans could get them) in hopes of repeating the windfall they got with Splash Mountain's closure...which led to the pin selling out resort-wide the day it was released. What is the effect of Pizzerizzo?
