November of 2013 I was able to visit Disneyland. When I first got there, I was adamantly against pin collecting. I don't really know why to be honest. I would rant and rave about how it was all just a ploy to get more money and what not. And then I saw a pin that I really liked and it was like... okay just this one and that's it. By the time my trip was over I had bought around five in total the whole time reassuring myself that it was only these few and no more. Over the course of the past year I've become almost obsessed with disney pins. I've been lurking around learning about lingo, the dangers of fake pins, and trading etiquette, even buying a few new pins off eBay. I've come to see how much fun it is and I'm so happy and excited to become a part of this wonderful community of passionate Disney lovers!

Haha, I think it starts this way for a lot of us!

Of course it's a way for Disney to make money. But aren't the parks made to make money too? And you know... those parks are really enjoyable! ;) Don't be ashamed to collect pins. If you're having a good time, it's worth it!

Hi and welcome to the community. :wavey:

If pin trading is a way for Disney to make money then crystal collectors is a way for Swarovski to make money or lovers of chocolate is a way for Hershey to make money. It's all just how you look at hobbies and luxuries. Glad you finally decided to join us on the dark side, though. We have pins. :naughty:

Sadly the pin-bug strikes mercilessly once it selects a target. It's a sad yet beautiful fact. Welcome to the community, and I hope you end up having a wonderful experience in your pin-trading career!

Pretty similar story here except I was a cast member! And 15 years later I've done quite a bit of trading, buying and collecting. Welcome to the hobby! It's fun here on the dark side.

Welcome to DPF!

Hey, like you, I thought I would only buy a handful of pins that I "needed" and never get into the big craze of it all. I actually told myself that I was only going to collect one thing (of which there were only 4 or 5 pins of at the time) and that's it! No need to even register here! But after spending more time learning about the hobby and seeing all of the amazing pins out there and cool people to meet, I started to find more and more reasons to join in the fun of it all!

I hope you have a great time in this hobby, too!

:D
