AP Jessica as Hook?

So I was looking through my pins last week, trying to get my traders in order and took a closer look at my Jessica as Hook pin and noticed a tiny little AP stamped in the back. I tried to find an AP version listed on pinpics but didn't see it. Other than knowing that the "AP" stands for Artist Proof, I pretty much know nothing about AP pins so I'm just wondering if this could be right? Or did someone just stamp this into the pin back? Are there AP versions of Jessica as Hook floating around? Here are a couple of pics of the back. The AP is stamped next to the "China". I know there are at least a few AP collectors floating around here, so I'd love some more info.

looks like the AP version. There may not be a pinpics listing because most people don't add an AP version until they have it in hand.

Huh, so at least in theory there should be other versions of this pin out there with silver and black backs...how cool!! And are you saying that this pin would have been originally sold as a set with other APs then? Wow! Thanks for the info! No wonder people like to try and collect these APs, the stories about them are pretty interesting

Very cool! Thanks so much for the info! Ok, I've gotta find one of these black-backed pins! That sounds awesome! What would really be cool is if I could find both of the other two Jessica as Hook pins - the silver and the black. I'm guessing that would be pretty difficult to do though...hmmm...

I thought Disney Shopping did not stamp AP on their APs? The set I have is unstamped

In general the Gold / Silver / Black test sets were not marked with an AP. Originally intended to be a trio, once broken up whatever pin was the base color used in the production run is basically impossible to recognize. The othe two colors would immediately stand out.

As for updates to the Pin Pic's history, that is very much hit or miss. There are dozens of pins missing from the data base such as Mickey Mouse/Major League Baseball tie ins and likley other cross over pins that predate 1999. So not being in the database does not automatically mean pin does not exist.

In this instance, I suspect you have the normal Artist Proof pin that was created once the base metal color had been determined.

I have two AP sets that were purchased from Disney in 2008:
— The first is the Snow White/Elisabeth Gomes #55689. They have a small "AP" on each of them.
— The second is the Jessica/Antarctic #53737. They only have an "A" on each of them.

I haven't listed them on PinPics, but hope to find time before the end of the year.

Hope this adds some information to this discussion --
