Are all Marvel pins now Disney pins!?

I am rather confused. The past few days I've seen some older Marvel pins from the 90's being posted to PinPics as Disney pins. Now I know that Disney purchased Marvel a few years ago and that they have released a few Marvel pins. But now that they own Marvel, does that make all previous Marvel pins Disney pins/tradable with Disney pins? I know you can trade anything for a pin (tacos, baked goods, etc.) but having them listed under PinPics as Disney pins makes the assumption that they are tradable at the Disney Parks. They do not have any kind of Disney back stamp, rather they have a "Marvel Planet Studios" trademark. In my opinion, I do not think they should be.

These are the pins in question:

Pin 91599: Cyclops sans Visor (X-Men) Pin 91597: Sabretooth (X-Men)
Pin 91605: Captain America Badge Pin 91596: Wolverine - Coming At You!

If these are now considered Disney pins, then wouldn't all Marvel pins made previous to Disney's acquisition be considered to be Disney? At the time Marvel was it's own company and either made their own or had another company make their pins. Later on, Universal Studios was given the licensing rights to make Marvel pins. Just because they say "Universal Studios" on them doesn't make them any less Marvel, which is now Disney. So by the same logic, wouldn't those be considered Disney pins? To me, I don't think these are Disney pins. They are pins made by Marvel prior to their current relationship with Disney and should not be considered to be Disney pins.

Say for some strange reason that Universal Studios bought Lucasfilm. Would that make all the current Disney created Star Wars pins Universal Studios pins and should now be listed under Universal pins and not Disney pins? What about the Star Wars pins that were created by Lucasfilm itself, do those now become Universal Pins?

What do you think? I could be wrong, but to me it just seems like an odd mix.

Here's something else to think about. Take a look at pins 13695, 13698, 13700, 13701, 14148, 14149, 14150, 14151, 14152, and 14153.



These are all listed under the class of "Disney Pins". How are these Disney? It seems that they were sold at the Disney Parks according to PinPics, but they were also sold outside of the parks. As a child, I remember buying some of these at the local Toys'r'Us. They were made by Applause Inc. and do not have a Disney copyright on the back like many of the later Star Wars/Lucasfilm pins. Are they considered to be Disney pins because they were sold in the parks? I think these issues can be fixed with the updating of PinPics. There should be more categories to list pins under. Not all pins are Disney pins, yet they may have the same subject matter. Perhaps there can be a set of specific Marvel and Lucasfilm categories?

I could just be nit-picking about all of this, but it's been bugging me.
 
Pinpics isn't associated with Disney, just because pinpics categorize's these as "Disney" pins does not mean that CMs will accept them for trade. In fact I would think that they would not. I would think that you're right about them needing their own pinpics category, perhaps you should email them, they are really quite fast about responding. Maybe this is a question that you can then answer for all of the rest of us.

I agree yosoyahpuch, they seem out of place on Pinpics. I can understand adding newer Marvel pins since Disney purchased Marvel. But I dont think older Marvel pins have a place on Pinpics. If they are to stay, then they should certainly have their own category.
 
personaly I wouldnt of counted as disney pins but if you want a pin and someones willing to trade a dinsey stamped pin for it then I dont see a problem, its down to choice of what your willing to trade and what you personaly think of a disney endorsed pin.
 
It has to say Disney on the back. I'm guessing these don't. That' being said, people are free to do whatever they want with their stuff. If someone wants to offer you a trade for a DA LE100 for one of those, be my guest. I'm sure you could get a decent LE out of Goofy_Moe right now for a DPF logo pin. Haha.
 
I agree that it should have Disney backstamp to be considered a Disney pin.
 
I think that the Marvel pins in question should be seperated into their own category. Just because Marvel is owned by Disney doesn't make the other pins, which some of them look very lackluster, anymore tradable in the parks. Don't forget about the Universal pins by that matter as an example.
 
I also do not consider these to be Disney pins. I feel that only the ones with the Disney logo should be on pinpics, but that is my opinion. If they are going to be on pin pics they definiely need their own catergory.
 

This has been a current debate. There is no other category to put Marvel pins under, there is only the Disney/Marvel category, so I guess there needs to be a new category just for Marvel and Marvel/Disney. The way it is, it seems that the Marvel/Disney category is the best for all Marvel pins, including your new Spider-Man pin. It's very similar to the situation mentioned above with the non-Disney Star Wars pins. Maybe each listing should just mention whether or not it has a Disney copyright on it.

As for the Batman buttons, they can go under the WB/Looney Tunes category, which also includes DC comics characters like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, etc. (Owned by WB) It seems like all those maybe should be separate categories too.

Also, for those saying that ONLY Disney pins should be on PinPics, there are already categories for Olympic pins, Rainforest cafe pins and the above mentioned WB/Looney Tunes/DC. They have been part of PinPics as long as I remember. And that doesn't even include the new Knott's, Hershey's, Universal, Peanuts, Simpsons, Betty Boop.............There are so many different kinds of pins to collect!

Disney is my first love, but I am glad there's a place to organize some of my non-disney pins!

Now if someone would create a database for SPORTS team pins! :eek2:
 
Don't the official pin trading rules say that there must be a Disney backstamp? Personally, I wouldn't consider these Disney myself. You could probably trade them to cast members as most of the time they don't actually check to make sure the pin is legit, but I wouldn't if I had them personally, because the person that trades for it after you might be upset it's not an offcial Disney pin, or the cast member could get in trouble if anyone relased it didn't have a Disney backstamp.

I'd love to hear what an experianced cast member who would know would say about this.
 

Very good point. I hadn't really been thinking about it as far as Disney trading goes, just for organizing and listing.
 
Having been unable to do it, I finally sent an e-mail to PinPics about these pins. I'lll let you know what they respond with!

"These pins will be reclassified post conversion. I am keeping a list of
them and will do it after conversion."
