Hey everyone!

Just wanted to stop in and reintroduce myself. I was super into pin trading back when it first launched in the early 2000s — some of my best childhood memories were made trading in the parks, hunting for the next favorite pin, and building a collection that meant the world to me.

Unfortunately, all of my original pins were lost during Hurricane Katrina. We were living in New Orleans at the time, and like many others, we lost a lot during that storm — including my entire pin collection. For years, I thought that chapter had closed.

But now, life has come full circle in the best way — I’m a new dad with a one-year-old son, and we’ve started pin trading all over again. There’s something incredibly special about returning to the magic, this time with my little one in tow.

We’re currently searching for Treasure Planet and Atlantis pins for their nostalgic value, and also diving into Marvel pins, since we’re huge comic book fans. We recently picked up the 25th Anniversary Captain America and Fantastic Four pins from the parks, and the hunt is officially back on!

If anyone here is open to trades, tips, or just connecting with a returning trader trying to rebuild and share the magic with the next generation, I’d love to chat. Looking forward to being part of this amazing community again — and hopefully building a new collection full of great stories and new memories.

Hi there friend! We've been collecting since the beginning too. I'm sorry to hear about the loss with Katrina (I live in Western Texas but had family who weathered the storm) and it was very scary to see all of the report. Happy to have you here and safe. Congrats on forming an awesome bonding activity with your baby boy; such a fun connection!!

A lot of new licensed pin companies have formed since Disney started so food for thought: Loungefly, FigPin, Pinkalamode, and Funko all make fun designs that are trade worthy and (for the most part) affordable for those of us who can't make it down to the parks on a regular basis. They all have sales pretty regularly but this is a great starting point for building up traders!

If you ever want to trade or ask more specific questions, just reach out!

Welcome to the forum Tyler and Jax - if our ‘responses’ to post had “🥲” I certainly would have as your post touched me that you are able to return to collecting in such a memorable way after dealing with a disaster ❤️

@momin.ator and *many* others here at DPF are the best of the best and I know you are going to just find an extra layer of joy being able to get to know ones here and make yours and your son’s pin quests come true 🥹 All the best in your new pin quest!! 😍

Welcome back! Sorry to read how hurricane Katrina affected your hobby (and obviously your life). I am an old-timer and have been around since the beginning. Were you active on the Dizpins forums (there are a few of us, here) or more unfamiliar to current peopel when Disboards had an active Pin Collecting / Trading section (I don't know if there are others besides me from there)? Pinpics? Somewhere else?
