When I decided to start pin collecting, I was *not* going to collect Beauty & the Beast. I had collected Beauty and the Beast goods (but not pins) when I was a young teen, but for personal reasons I gave it up. Seeing the pins reminded me what the movie meant to me, and I watched it, and fell in love all over again.

So I am all in. But I would love some tips and pointers. (In otherwords, just what am I getting myself into? ;) )

• What are the known counterfeits/scrappers for this topic?

• What are the highlights, pins I should be looking out for?

• What would you consider a reasonable price for the BT? Are there other pins like this that I should expect to pay a lot for?

Last night I was reading old posts about the "Window to the Magic" series and it made me a bit paranoid about scrappers and fakes. I was almost ready to throw in the towel, but I thought I would ask for advice instead. Thanks in advance to anyone who can advise me. :)

I also really love Beauty and the Beast. I like the movie a lot, but I ain't a princess collector so no priority for me, though Managed to get some good ones in the last year. I think the movie is perfect and prestigeous, so for pins I actually am a little picky. Mostly grail like, for my BatB collection. (Yeah, I'm a little wacky, haha) not that I don't like more simple pins but I would cherish them at another spot at my board.

My highlights would be:
- Beauty and the Beast BT, obviously overly awesome. Quite a must have to my opinion. (Yes I have it)
- PODM, what better than a real piece of your 'favourite' movie? (Still hunting)
- Bunny series pin (BatB), so funny. I really don't want it to become girly, so this is perfect to make it more light and fresh. (Have it)
- 110th legacy, Belle at book cabinet or beast and gaston. Both are awesome and depict some less frequently seen scenes.
- Romance series pin (UK), great pin in heart shape showing them in love (beast as human). (I have it)

I know what you mean. I am all about Beast (to tease me, my friends have been calling the movie "The Beast and That Other Person") so I am going to be really particular about my Belle-only pins and pins of the enchanted objects, etc. I do want some, but only if they are really nice. I guess that goes for Beast/Prince pins too, but I'm more inclined to impulse buy pins with him on.

OMG, just looked it up. He looks like Ralphie from "A Christmas Story." XD Thanks for the laugh!

I had seen the Belle one, but not the other. Very cool!

I had to pass this one up on eBay recently. :( Looks like a beautiful pin, definitely on my list.

I know a lot of people love the Designer Princess pins. The BATB one is really nice. There's also the golden brocade series Belle which is also really nice.

I feel like I'm at least a generation removed from the current collectors (if not two or three) but back in the day, these were some of that movie's grails:

The Designer Princess pin is really cute, but it feels pretty modern. I like it, but I'm not sure if it will fit in my collection. I hadn't seen the Golden Brocade Belle before, I'll add that to my list. Thanks for the suggestions!

Ooh, I like those! I appreciate the suggestions for older pins -- it makes for variety. :)

Does anyone have any tips on fakes? I understand that any pin can potentially have a fake (let's hope not...), but what are some of those that are known for certain to have them?

Haha. You remind me of myself.

Beauty and the Beast is my absolute favorite Disney movie, and Belle is my favorite princess by far.

But when I started collecting two years ago, I was scared of collecting princesses - It just seemed too difficult and expensive!

I recently started collecting just a few of my favorites, though. Like someone else said, mostly grail-worthy pins - Haha. I have champagne taste.

These are the few BATB pins I own:

(The BATB PODM is actually for trade, but only for grails from my signature. PODMs just aren't my thing. I'm thinking of doing a trade auction for it soon. And I happen to have an extra Window to the Magic pin that is also for trade!)

These are some BATB pins I would LOVE to own someday...

I also love the BATB designer princess pin, the brocade Belle pin, and the Beloved Tales (of course!), but I just don't see myself ever paying the prices they go for, so they're not even on my wants list anymore. (Out of sight, out of mind, right? Bah.) I don't have the Legacy pin (her in the bookstore), because I have a weird prejudice against sliders and danglers and whatnot.

The "Masterpiece" pin I know I'll never own as well, but… Just look at it. It's gorgeous.

I can't bring myself to delete it, even from my wants list, no matter what.

The others I can see myself conceivably acquiring at some date in the distant future. But that one truly is a pipe dream. :)

Oh, and I collect BATB merchandise, too, although I don't have much… A plush Beast. A ceramic Chip (teacup). Some Funko figurines of Cogsworth, Lumiere, and Mrs. Potts. And a designer Belle postcard. <3 What sort of merchandise do you own?

I would let you look at my traders if I had any good ones. ;) I'm at that stage where the only pins I have worth trading are my keepers! lol

I must have that Christmas boxed gift set. Must. Have. These are all really nice. :)

I don't mind dangles but sliders kind of freak me out. It's like I can feel the metal wearing down every time I slide it, lol. As for the more pricey pins, I will probably just put aside money for that purpose sometimes. If I can ever stop buying other pins long enough to do so! I really do want the BT, and that Masterpiece pin . . . I NEED it. :)

Well, it's a long story, but I no longer have my collection. I had books, posters, some ceramics including a Belle figurine that was a music box that would turn when the song played. Things like that. See, once upon a time my favorite character was Gaston -- though I liked all the characters -- but after a very bad relationship with someone like that, I could no longer stomach the film, and I got rid of all my collectibles at a yard sale. Until recently, I hadn't watched it since. It's kind of a milestone in my life that I can enjoy it again. :) I will add some Gaston pins to my collection for the sake of completion, but I will be extra picky about them -- and the Legacy pin mentioned by Allie.Pin is required. ;)

Just adding my two cents in here as a Lumiere/Cogsworth character collector. One of the most beautiful Lumiere pins I have is the Food and Wine Festival 2013 Passholder Lumiere pin. A definite must for your Beauty and the Beast collection.

Dear Fellow Beauty & the Beast Collector,

Please go away, and let me finish finding my Grails. Thank you, and have a nice day.

Beauty & the Beast is my insane love, my absolute #1. Some of my all time favorite pins are relatively inexpensive ones. They aren't all scary prices. Though the Designer Couple Belle and Beast is simply stunning, and my all time #1 Holiest of Holy Grails is the Beauty & the Beast Beloved Tale... Someday I hope it will be mine :) Please feel free to check out my Pinpics wants and collection, you may get some good ideas for your own wants.

I've seen that pin and it is truly gorgeous; I will definitely put it on my list. Lumiere is one of my top favorite Disney characters, so I imagine he'll be a bit overrepresented in my collection. ;) I also really like the Cogsworth Watch Collector's Club pins and hope to get all of those. Actually, I have a fondness for event pins, restaurant pins, etc. So many of them seem to be really beautiful and they add variety. One I got recently that I really love is the Be Our Guest Restaurant Annual Passholder pin from 2012. I just love the stained glass effect and how ornate it is.
