And I mean it literally too. So my husband woke up last night close to midnight to use the restroom, and as he gets closer to the bedroom door, which is right next to our lower level bathroom, he steps in a puddle. Of course he thinks, "dangit Sandy!" But of course that's odd since our dog Sandy is good about not peeing inside the house, and the puddle didn't end. Turns out the bathroom overflowed and flooded our basement. We live in a split level type house and our master is the basement. Course he wakes me up and there we are trying to figure out how to extract the 2 inches of water from the bathroom, bedroom, office and closet. So since then, we've shopvacced, torn up the carpet and just sorted through all the mess that got wet. Our backyard looks like a Sandford and Son episode, junk everywhere. Talk about life making you purge! I just sat down and am exhausted, my poor hubby hasn't slept a wink, I cheated a little at about 4 in the morning. When my kids woke up in the morning they asked somewhat annoyed, "why were you vacuuming in the middle of the night, you woke us up." The nerve I tell ya...lol. Anywho, that was my adventure for the day. Tomorrow the work continues, have to figure out where to buy new carpet, wash a ton of stuff, dry clean hubbies suits, continue purging...

Oh, no! I'm so sorry to hear about that! Sounds like so much work and hassle.

I hope you get a good night's sleep tonight. And kudos to you for not throttling your kids after that comment!

Sending you whatever patience I can!

Oh, man! I'm so sorry. If I lived closer I'd run to your house to help. Instead, I'll be sending good vibes and pixie dust for a painless cleanup... and some rest for you. Hang in there!

I am so sorry to hear this. :( Floods are absolutely the worst! Make sure you get everything that got at all wet. For me, that meant, in addition to the carpet/flooring, removing all the baseboards. (Luckily, the sheet rock behind it was installed properly and did not go all the way to the ground so no need to cut any.) Sending you energy vibes for the work ahead!

Thanks everyone! I'm currently at the laundromat, had to bring in hubby's suits to dry clean and have to wash bulky comforters...man, it's expensive!!

Now that the carpet and padding is removed, how do you guys suggest sanitizing floor? Bleach, vinegar?

I sent them the local guy an email but no word yet, I might switch just because of the delay in response.

That's weird. What about the national #? I always call the claims #, I have no idea if my insurance company has a local person, lol

Make sure to take lots of pictures, document document document and keep receipts!

I'd offer my husband as an agent, but he can only sell/cover in WA state.

I went ahead and filed online, not holding my breath though. I'm just thankful nothing happened to us, we had the heater fan plugged in on the ground, if my hubby didn't get up when he did the water would've reached it and who knows what could've happened.

Oh crap! I’ve had a toilet flood the house before and it sucks massively! I hope your insurance guy picks up the pace and you can dry out all your stuff and save the important stuff.
