But many of the scrapper DA LE100 pins are missing their holograms when they should have them - a strong sign it's a fake.

Yes, but for those that don't know, if they are missing the hologram there is still a stamped out part on the pin where it should be so those are very easy to spot.
 
I know what you mean. I have 3 pins like that and it looks like they forgot to print something there. I had some traders with experience check them and they are good. Just no hologram

Without knowing what pins you are talking about I'm not sure I follow. If the pin is supposed to have a hologram but doesn't, then they may not be good. There has been a ebay seller in China selling LE 100 DA pins with the hologram missing. When questioned he flat out said that he got them straight from the factory. An oval blank spot is concerning. On other (non-DA) pins there are blank rectangles for the artist to sign, but not a lot of pins have that.
