Hi everyone!
This is about orders from the DS UK so people in the USA you don't need to read it unless you want to:rofl:
I'm not sure if anyone else thinks this but I think the packaging they sometimes send the pins in is a complete waste of the Earth's resources. Recently I ordered 3 pins from the DS UK and they arrived in a huge cardboard box complete with an air bag thing just to hold 3 pins inside a bit of bubble wrap! I personally think this is such a waste of packaging! It's nice and all for the pins not to get damaged but they don't need that much protection! Saying that sometimes I get them in a large bubble wrap envelope which is much better, but whenever I order more than 2 pins I get a huge Disney store Uk box for a couple of pins!!!!

Hi, I agree it seems a waste. But I do wonder if there is a good reason behind it. I only started to receive my pins in boxes, after the courier "lost" my package containing pins. With the small envelopes, its very obvious that pins are inside.
 
not just DSUK....

The last time we ordered a couple pins from ds.com We got a box that was about 12x12x6 inches... for 2 little pins. I about died laughing, the bubble filler and the box must have wieghed 4x the amount of the pins.

Same, I bought one pin and I practically needed an engineering degree to get it open because of how packaged it was...
 
I got 2 pins in a basic envelope with a little bit of bubble wrap. Swings both ways I suppose 0.o it seems silly to use that much though! we need a healthy balance.
 
I ordered 3 bears, a journal, designer villainness Gothel and a Mickey/Minnie pin, which all arrived in one large box. The 3 bears were stuffed together in one bag (after getting them, I realized I ordered 2 of the same bear), the journal was loose in the box, the Mickey/Minnie pin was in a small ziploc bag, loose, the DV Gothel was in its own separate box and there was some air bubbles (not bubble wrap) in the box. I haven't inspected the pin to see if it sustained any damage (the journal did but I think that it was damaged to begin with since the damage was under the cover/slip that had the price tag on it.)

The air bubbles were just there to prevent the rest of the items from moving (but didn't really do a good job for the journal or the pin).
 
I agree...too much packaging! Some bubble wrap and a padded envelope would suffice! Perhaps then if they use less packing we could get a reduction on the ridiculous postage prices!
 
Last time I bought pins from DS was when I bought the Snow White 75th Anniversary set with a tshirt and water bottle. The amount of wrapping they had to put on the three items to keep them from moving around was ridiculous. They could have easily used a smaller box.
 
Not as crazy as one of my suppliers at work. Everything from the same department which would have fitted into 1 box put into 3 and then the courier lost 2 of said boxes :facepalm:
 
Disney has the biggest boxes, it's funny. You'd think for pins they'd have a special box category so it's smaller. I think they just like to use the same boxes so they stack easy and they buy in MASS BULK the same box. cuts their cost down overall even if the few pins they sell are laughably small compared to their box.
 
I completely agree with you! They come in massive envelopes with one or two pins in and then wouldn't fit through the letterbox if you weren't in. It makes me not want to go out when I'm waiting on something in case I have to go and pick it up. It also comes via courier rather than in the post, maybe its safer and they can track things better but it seems like its too expensive for what it is. But maybe if they did less we'd complain then too!
 
My pins come in a padded envelope (the envelope is unnecessarily large tbh), but when I ordered a single pin and a re-usable bag, it came in a huuuuge cardboard box! On more than one occasion!
It's so strange because in the actual Disney Store we try so hard to get people to not waste bags etc. - we charge for plastic carrier bags and encourage the use of reusable bags. So the waste of packaging on the online store is even more ridiculous!
 
I highly agree as i pre ordered the new tink dvd and a lanyard and my 2 starter pins and when they arrived i was shocked as i thought i got the book with the dvd but didnt when opened i started laughing a box for a dvd lanyard and 2 pins sorry they could of been sent in an envelope as the box too much but least i have a box for storing stuff in it
 
Lots of my stuff is not packed properly. I've had quite a few broken pins as they were just packed in a jiffy bag and got crushed in transit. The same goes from my Princess Christmas ornaments which were all shoved into one bag. They arrived with their legs and heads broken off :shock:
 
I agree in part.

I have received orders from DSUK where the largest item was a booster set & it came in the obligatory box full of air pockets - I laughed and laughed as it so ridiculous!

My last order from them was 4 pins & a notebook. Again they were all in a box padded out with air pockets, but the pins were nicely protected in a bubble wrap baggie.

However, I'm currently in a dispute with them over the order prior to that one. They put 6 pins with absolutely no protection at all, loose inside an A4 jiffy bag. Two of the backing cards were so damaged they're almost ripped in half. Needless to say, the pins weren't for me & so I complained and asked if they could be replaced. The lady on the phone said I should pop in to my local store for that!! That aside, they promised a response within 5-7 days: that period was up 5 days ago - I emailed again and still nothing!!

Their customer care in general leaves a bit to be desired at the moment.
 
Ooh, I have some huge UK Disney Store boxes stored over here.
It's so stupid indeed, the box is HUGE and usually more then half empty :/ such a waste.
 
I placed an order a while ago for which came to about £90 total for people on the other forum so they could get pins for cost. well I received them in a jiffy bag almost 2.5 times the size of my own hand (wrist to fingertip) and each pin had not a shred of protection, they had the plastic wrapper they would come in as they were paris pins but no bubble wrap in it at all! I complained and it took them about 3ish weeks to refund my £6 postage but I did not get any discount code or anything :/
 
yes! it annoys me so much. I have so many rolls of those air pocket bags that they put into the boxes :lol:

They come in useful for packing stuff I sell on ebay. But it annoys me alot how big the boxes are for like 1 item!

HAs anyone else noticed too, when you buy merchandise online from them, they send you the poorest quality one?

for example this is the belle doll I recently recieved:



Who gave that the OK to send out when her eye is like that?! I havent had a response from the email I sent them about it yet either. :|
 
I am shocked to see that picture you put up of belles eyes it looks like shes high or drunk that doll should of never had the all clear to be put on shelves or even to be dispatched i am appalled that disney has gone so down hill with products and delivery

I agree! I emailed them and they said to send a photo, so I did but no response yet! I also got a little mermaid plush a while ago and part of her hair isnt sewn on so I had to sew it on...i swear they choose the worst quality ones to ship out!
 
my husband and I almost got into a fight over this. I was gone and a delivery came for me from ds.com...good lord, he thought I bought out the website, and all I got was a box set of pins! So much waste!

Haha! Same thing happend to me but with my mum. She rang me in a rage about 'how much money did you spend' I then said she could open the box and she apologised :lol:
 
I have to say after my complaint re damaged backing cards, I finally got a reply today. They're sending out 2 new pins to me.

Result! (Although a bit later than expected)

My first thought was that "what if they just chuck them in the jiffy bag loose again??"

Thanks for all your responses everyone and I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks this is a waste of the environment.
Sometimes even though they have given me the huge box with the air pockets, the pins are just in one bit of bubble wrap squeezed in next to each other: very easy for them to get scratched like that!

They have probably got to go through a lot of complaints at the moment so maybe that is why they are taking a while in responding. Vickichip7 I'm glad you got your issue resolved and 2 new pins!!!
