I know this has probably been covered (if true) but I could not find a post after searching and going back over posts a few pages.
Anyway:
I heard second hand the other day that Epcot removed the pin trading tables at the pin booth down by the fountain.
Is this true?

Yes, the tables were removed for "refurbishing" and should be back in 2 weeks. However, they said that for tables at Downtown Disney as well as in California, and they have yet to return there
 
I am going to EPCOT guest services this week to make an inquiry. Don't know if I will get any answers but, at least, they will now that Guests want them back!
 
I would love to know what Guest Services tells you. I would love to be able to trade in Epcot when I go to WDW in the summer.
 
They might put them back, Cast Members that work at Epcot's Pin Central have told us that when certain people trade there the sales have never been higher.

True, but I wonder what that return rate is as well. I just picked up "The Dark Side of Disney", and it is an informative read, though short in the pin trading section

it is still hard for me to believe that there are some people that scam people to then return for cash, i mean one thing is trading for a better pin in the store(wich i don't think is right is most cases) but other is to pretty much in a way sell yous pins for cash by cheating the system. Anyways, lets just hope for the best.
 
I'm writing a more formal snail mail letter to Disney. Wonder how much $$$ they lose because I'm NOT trading anymore?

Not trading means fewer trips. Fewer trips means less hotel and food revenue. It also means I won't be picking up other pins for trading fodder. And it means shorter trips since I won't spend 1-2 days out of a week trading pins at Epcot. What's the $$ hit on that if the same applies to others?
 
Just a question, but what is to stop us from sitting on the concrete planter walls etc. to trade? Will they ask you to move?

If it was like Downtown Disney, then nothing. I did that outside the pin store there 2 years ago and had no problems from CMs, etc. Inside the park might be different though, but I can not see how
 
Shoot, I trade in the MK as well. All I gotta do is break out a book and a crowd forms. But there won't necessarily be folks with HTF pins around so not the opportunity to trade for quite as cool or unusual pins. I do occasionally meet up with friends and we trade in various places in the world but that's all 1:1 stuff that will still happen.

I guess my point is that I won't be trading nearly as much or as seriously anymore. Instead it will be some ad hoc trading here and there. Some routine lanyard trading. And some planned 1:1 trading with friends.

That translates to a lot less revenue to Disney. I'm not happy about it but it's entirely their call so I'll express my concerns in a letter and then move on.
 
I've witnessed people being asked to leave DTD at WDW who have brought their pin books. I've also seen a mother and her two children escorted out of DTD by security because they brought pin books with them and wanted to set up and trade. They were told the only place you can do that is EPCOT. They do not want people trading on property in public. That's what we have been told by the managers at the DTD Pin Central.
 


i kind of understand in DTD because is a place u do not pay to get in, so any scammer or bad person can go there and trade with people and they can be rude to some people and well since it is a public place u kind of can do whatever u want(to an extend), but inside a park not just anybody will go in, u have to pay to get inside and stuff, so i don't think they will ask you to leave if u settle down a book in a table and trade with people, but that is just my opinion, and also i think depends on the cast member and manager in duty.
 
At the time, I only had a bag, so maybe that is why they left it alone. I did not have pins of books
 
I just think it's pretty sad that they call it Pin Trading but only want you to buy pins on property and trade them off property except during official Disney events.

i mean, u also have to understand their pointn of view, there are people there asking for cloth inside the stores and pin bags for 3 hidden mickeys and stuff, they are scaming people in a extreme level and most of the time they are giving out scrappers, and even though it is sad, disney is doing whatever is best to made the "disney Experience" most enjoyable, and it sucks that for one bad(really bad) apple, the whole tree has to come down.
 
I have talked to guest relations on a couple of occasions and they insist that the tables will be returned. I also talked to one of the managers at the pin trading station at length and here is what I was told, though stories change daily even from managers. She stated that there would be no problem bringing in books to trade with other guests but that it may be difficult until the tables are returned. They have received complaints from some guests that they felt they were cheated on their trading experience and their first responsibility is to the guest experience. They are aware of which individuals are less reputable than others but said that they would not single out people and ask them not to return. So it wouild appear to me that if they don't She insisted the tables would be back and that it was strictly to refurbish the tables.
 
Just so that some of the WDW traders know, this did happen last year at DLR. The barrels outside Westward Ho in Frontierland disappeared for a couple of weeks to be refurbished. Sure enough they did return after a couple weeks. Also the tables outside of Little Green Men in Tomorrowland disappeared for a while during the Star Tours relaunch as they used the area for overflow stroller parking, but those tables have since returned as well. If it goes the same out there I would think that the tables will return. I certainly hope so, because I would want to bring pins with me if got a chance to make it out there.
