Hello all
I'm new to the forum and very very new to pin trading/collecting. We are going on our first trip to Disneyland Paris in June and it is through researching this that I stumbled across pin trading and have since become addicted to finding out all about it lol. Myself, dd (4) and ds (6) are going to give it a go on our trip. Ds is going to start collecting Stich pins. He has a Stich lanyard and a few Stich pins to start him off. I bought him two LE Stich pins (Disney Auction Stich Halloween Jack-O-Latern Pumpkin head pin and Stich Movie director) to get his collection started. The sellers look genuine, so I hope they are authentic , as I'm afraid I don't think I'll be able to tell the difference yet. My dd is going to collect The Nightmare before Christmas pins-in particular Jack. Again I got her a lanyard starter set to get her up and running. My focus is mainly going to be all things Alice in Wonderland. I am also drawn to Jessica Rabbit (who isn't lol) and Bambi. I don't know whether to collect all 3 or focus on just Alice. I have no pins myself yet as I want to be more informed before I buy and hoping I'll get that here.
Well sorry for the long post. Am looking forward to meeting you all and learning more.
Nora

Thanks everyone.
Hi Aisling, I'm in Clane so not too far from you at all. That 's great would be delighted to meet up when I'm up and running. Thanks : )

Welcome aboard. I am also a fellow Alice collector. Only made it over to Ireland once so far, but I hope to go back some day !

Welcome! It'll be so exciting when you get to the park with a clear idea of what you and the family want to collect! Although, staring at the pin wall might back you change your mind and add on to the collections! :) I love Jessica and Bambi too, but so far only have one of each. Have a good day!

Hi there and welcome to dpf goodluck with your collection! I would stay away from hidden mickeys as these are the most faked pins there is also a forum that has scrappers on so you can tell the difference hope this helps

Thanks everyone for the lovely welcome.
Having spent hours looking at the pinpics gallery I'm finding it really difficult trying to decide what to collect lol!! Really loving Jessica dressed as other characters so think I will start with that. Thanks for the tip Damien regarding fake pins. Have been reading up on it and it is very daunting to a newbie who hasn't a clue . Will post the pins when I get them and hopefully pick some brains on what to look for :-)

I find the easiest way to avoid trading for scrappers is to stay calm. I get so "enthused" when I find pins I'm looking for I grab them even when something just doesn't look right. If you are going to trade with cast members be sure to buy some mystery packs (don't know what they have in Paris), the pins are usually about a dollar (euro) or two cheaper, you might get some Hidden Mickeys that you want and they're good to trade with cast members for pins you like. Be sure to post about Disneyland Paris, I've been to Disney World a number of times and would love to see all the Disneylands around the world.

Welcome:wavey: My husband & I can't wait to visit Ireland!! A few of our family members have been & loved the visit! Just happy to welcome you to the forum!! The best pins to collect are the ones you like & make you smile....simple as that!

Welcome Nora! I loved it when my kids collected pins. Now they are 13 and 15 and they have lost the interest and excitement they once had. My son gave me all of this misc pins and my daughter has hers in frames, but keeps thinking about selling them (she only collected Stitch). Too bad you live so far away as I have a few that I know some new pin collectors would love. :) Enjoy Disney in June!!
