Hello,

We are excited to join this form, and hopefully learn more about pin trading! Our family of 6 enjoyed our first trip to DL in 2011, and our oldest three children got their first chance to trade pins. We are excited to return this spring, and are eager to expand our collections! We have ordered some brand new booster sets and my second son (who will be 9) is especially excited! He has a couple of questions which I will let him ask below!

I was wondering how you tell authentic Disney pins from Disney pins that are scrappers? Can you leave advice for me? I just really want authentic pins and not fakes! Also I would like to know what pins to start off trading with. What are good pins to trade for that I can use for a next trade to get even better pins? I like Donald and muppets pins would those be good ones to trade for?

Hello and welcome I believe the Pin Comparison forum has tons of threads to help get familiar with weeding out the scrappers and counterfeits. When in the spring will you be coming to DLR?

Excellent questions. You can purchase pins to trade on eBay, but use common sense when purchasing; if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Yes, there are many unethical and dishonest sellers peddling counterfeit pins, but there also are people on the 'bay selling legitimate pins ... and it isn't fair to paint everyone with the same brush. You also can purchase pins here on the Marketplace, which you can find here: http://disneypinforum.com/forumdisplay.php?8-Pins-for-Sale-Wanted However, I would apply the same mentality to any purchases made here; use common sense, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Since you like Donald and the Muppets, those would be excellent pins to trade for. IMO, when it comes to your collection, a 'good' pin is one you love and will make you happy, it's just that simple, end of line. If you like it, trade for it; don't worry about the 'value.'

Hi and welcome! I trade with my 9 year old twin girls and we love it! We do both online trading with a little big higer end pins and park trading when we get a chance, but since we live in Sweden we can't go to Disney parks that often

Thanks, everyone. The comments above were from my son. I'm not sure how he's going to last until April, until he can actually trade his pins! He gets his pin bag out constantly, plans his trades and searches, etc.! I'm sure between us, as well as my other 3, that we'll have some questions for you between now and our trip!

What warm welcomes! I originally became interested in pin trading in planning our previous trip to DL. When I heard about pin trading, I thought to myself that I must let my kiddos give it a try, as I knew it was something I would have enjoyed. They indeed did have a blast (at least, the then 3-, 6-, and 8-year-olds did, as my youngest was only 1 then!), and some of our favourite memories from that trip are of finding that last pin to complete a collection, etc. Even if we now know that some of those beloved Puffle pins that my middle son searched so hard for are not legit, they are still treasured by him, as he was so proud to find and trade for the set, and I know they will remain a prized keepsake for him for many years! This trip, we are more knowledgeable, and will try to be a little more discerning when we make trades, but I am also realistic that there will be some questionable pins in their possession by the end of the trip. As long as we know that we have done as much as we can not to contribute any "bad" pins to the trading pool, I'm ok with it! I know that we are more casual traders at this point, than most of you, but I do appreciate the friendliness of those on this forum!
