Hello,
To trade or not to trade? That is the question. Actually, our family just got our annual passes a couple of weeks ago and were trying to figure out how to make each trip to the parks more memorable. So we thought it would be a neat idea to let our 4 year old son pick a pin every time we visited. This way we have a way to count the many times we visit the park this year. And because the pins are a way to track our visits, I was thinking he should keep them and not trade them...at least not yet.

Which leads me to a question. Is it a bad idea to put a date on the back of the pins to remember when we bought them? Does that ruin the trading ability?

Thanks everyone, I can't wait to read about people experiences trading their pins.

Justin

What if you picked out two pins as a family? One to keep for you collection, and you could put a date on as it will strictly be a "keeper", and one to put aside specifically as a future trader? I know I would probably crinkle my nose at a pin that had been written on, but I'm still new to the hobby too, and don't know all the etiquette :)

Hello JustinzPinz, and welcome :)

If you are thinking about keeping the pins, and never trading them, then they are yours to do what you want with.

However, if you ever feel you are going to trade them I would say do not write directly on a pin. Maybe you can use a mini sticky note with a date, or get some type of organizer that way you can label the organizer, and keep the pins in mint condition.

Hi Justin! Welcome to DPF!

I agree with what others have already said - don't write on the pin if you might ever want to trade or sell it (you shouldn't write on the backer card either, because some traders seem to care a lot about them).

welcome to the forum, may i suggest tape or the old label machine , the adhesive will come off with alcohol and wont damage the pin at all, you get the best of both worlds, date of visit that pin was aquired and tradeability afterwards if needed.....
plastic baggies work well too but cant see the art as well.

Put the pin in a puch and lable date on back of plastic ... or seperate tag

Welcome, Justin!

I agree with the other members above me who said not to write on the back of the pin, and suggested using a label maker or something instead. I personally wouldn't really mind if one of my keepers had writing on the back, but it does make a pin harder to trade, as lots of people would consider it an imperfection or flaw in an otherwise perfect pin.

Whether you decide to keep your pins or trade them away, I hope you have a lot of fun! Welcome to an extremely addictive hobby. ;)

Welcome! We have only been to WDW once but we did buy a pin each for my girls to keep as a memory. Others they trade, but not that special one.

Since your questions already has been answered (and I completely agree with everything that has been said), I'm just going to say 'Aloha Justin' and 'Welcome!' :wavey:
