Hello everyone, my name is Jason and I'm fairly new to the pin scene. We made our first trip down to Orlando last year and spent the week at Disney. I started a collection for my two (at the time) daughters. One really liked tink and the other was into the princesses, so they got appropriate lanyards and a bunch of entry level pins to start. I was wondering where to look for some of the more limited or special edition pins to broaden there collection and make it special. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh also the rubber pin backs seem to want to fall off ,what's the good fix? Thanks
 
Hi Jason! Welome to the forum!

I've still pretty new too. Ebay can be a good resource to get older and/or limited edition pins, but you might want to educate yourself a little first by checking out the threads here about counterfeit & 'scrapper' pins.

There is a seller on ebay who sells fantastic pin backs which lock on but don't damage the pin posts (I understand that Disney's locking backs can damage the posts). Search for Disney locking pin backs - you're looking for a seller named disneypatriot.

Rocke01 here on this forum is also selling the locking pin backs, I believe. Check the sales section of the forum.

Also generally for pins I'd buy from the sales section here before I'd buy on ebay. I've bought from some ebay sellers that were reputable (via word-of-mouth) but you don't always know. On the plus side, I hear that ebay seller protection is good.

But there are usually a lot of DPF members selling pins, and you can look at their feedback here too.
 
Hello Jason and welcome to the forum!

I'm still fairly new to pin trading as well, but I can give some tips I've learned in the past five months.
1) Make a wishlist of some pins you would like to obtain on your pin trading journey. A good website to help with this is pinpics.com. It has almost every pin Disney, Disney auctions ( a disconinued site), and the Disney soda fountain (in Hollywood CA) has released.

2) Check the Disney website and facebook pages for pin news. Sometimes you cannot rely on the forum to constantly update on the new pin releases, granted major releases such as the PODMS (Piece of disney movie pins) will surely be talked abount in the pin discussion section, but as for more general pins and also popular pins disney pin trading.com will help you greatly on every thing pin related including the upcoming releases. Oh, and also do not rely on the date posted for the release. In some cases the pin will still be there weeks after the release( in certain pin shops) but for the most part the sooner you go the better to guarantee the purchase of said pin.

3) Cast members are your friends, but can also be your worst nightmare. I can only speak on the CM (Cast member) lanyards (the pins you see cast memebers wear) at DLR (disneyland resort). They are a high scrapper (counterfeit) epidemic at DLR. Alot of the CM pins are indeed fake ( scrappers) and you must be weary of the trades you make at the resorts. That being said, they're are some hidden gems on certain CM lanyards sometimes, if you're lucky, LE PINS (limited edition) !
