Hello! My name is Vanessa and I live in Albuquerque. After trying to avoid it for far too long, I finally caved and decided to start pin collecting and trading! I grew up in southern California and Disney has always been a big part of my life. I try and make it back to the park as often as I can and my last visit (last Monday) I finally bought a lanyard and some trading pins. Looking back I really wish I would have gotten more!

I love the Cheshire Cat and most of my small collection consists of him. I also really love anything related to Disneyland (rides, signs, etc...), especially retro Disneyland.

I don't quite know where to start, though from what I've read it seems that E-bay is a pretty shady place to purchase pins. I'm really looking forward to getting to know everyone on here and building my collection! :cheshire:

Aloha Vanessa and Welcome! :wavey:

The best place to start is by asking questions. It's a great way to learn about these shiny (and addictive) pieces of metal and I know that someone (or several someones) will be more than happy to answer your questions for you.

If you're talking about acquiring pins (without going to a park), you can check out the sale boards here: http://disneypinforum.com/forumdisplay.php?8-Pins-for-Sale-Wanted Although just because you are buying from members here doesn't mean you shouldn't check references, use common sense, ask questions when appropriate, and listen to your instincts (if something seems too good to be true, it probably is). For good or ill, you shouldn't paint people with the same brush. This goes for eBay as well as here on the forum.

The only way to guarantee a pin as authentic is to purchase it directly from Disney. You can buy pins from DisneyStore.com and from the Disney parks through DelivEARS. The only catch with DelivEARS is that you must wait 30 days for limited edition pins (open edition pins are available immediately, not sure about limited releases). That and shipping can be pricy.

I hope this helps and, again, welcome. :)

Hello and Welcome :D

Ebay isn't all that bad - for the members like me who can't get to parks often it's kind of our only place to buy pins (Except on here of course!!)

Hello Vanessa and a hearty WELCOME the to DPF family.

I really liked what Dancecats wrote in her welcome reply to you.

It was great food for thought for me too.

Pin-trading is addictive, and it is grand fun!

I too, collect the Cheshire Cat. As a matter of fact, I just, last night, updated my "wants" list on Pin Pics, of him.
All the best to you! May you thoroughly enjoy your new hobby.:wiggle:
