Hi from Florida!!

Hi and Welcome!

We're so happy you found us. Pins and pin trading can be overwhelming at first, but remember that even the most experienced trader was new at one point. Don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have; I'm certain that someone will be more than happy to answer them for you.

Do you have a favorite character or theme to collect?

Hi, welcome to the forum.
What pins styles, characters, or themes do you collect?
What part of Florida. I'm near Zephyrhills.
HI!! I live over in Plant City... we are practically neighbors!! As for the pins I collect.. really whatever catches my eye. I will see one either that someone has or has talked about then I will set out to find it on Mecari. Then I find ALL sorts of things I like!! LOL. I just collected all 6 airplanes. I am now interested in a set of teapots and a set of balloons I saw on there. Im just all over the place!! LOL.. What about you? What are your favorites??

Hi!! I am so excited to learn about everything!! I buy pins I like or ones I see that others have. I just recently found and bought a set of 6 airplane pins on Mecari that I just love!! (I work at an airport) As I was looking through there I found other pins I love too... a teapot set, a balloon set...I love anything with Walt and Mickey. My big thing is that I don't want to buy anything that is fake. I am too new to know the difference. I do know to look at the back, but for the older pins I don't know if I could determine fake or real. Sorry for the long response!! But I'm glad I found this forum!!!9

I collect Stitch, first responder (Fire, Police, Nurse, Doctor), and a bunch of other pins that I or my wife likes. You'll have to look at the pin gatherings post. There are several events in the Orlando area.

While I understand the temptation to start collecting anything you like as long as it's a shiny piece of metal with a pointy back attached, I'm going to give you a caveat. I started out collecting that way, many years ago, and not limiting my collection was one of my biggest mistakes. I literally purchased almost every single limited edition pin that was released for too many years, regardless of whether I actually liked it, because I was advised they would make 'good traders.' If I had it to do over, I would do what I'm doing now, which is focusing my collection of a few characters and themes that I actually like and make me happy. You can define a theme as broadly or narrowly as you see fit.

As far as buying or trading for anything fake ... here's the thing: you can be the newest newbie or the most experienced pin trader and still accidentally trade for these pins, for reasons including but not limited to:

1. trading in suboptimal conditions, such as inadequate light or insufficient time to see the pin
2. not knowing the signs that would indicate a pin is legit vs fake
3. sometimes the dodgy pins are of such good quality, one needs a side-by-side comparison with a known legit pin to be sure

I've been in pins for a very long time and I sometimes still accidentally trade for a fake pin. Anyone who says they haven't traded for anything dodgy at some point either hasn't been in pins very long or is lying.

Thank you so much for that GREAT advise!! I will definately redifne my pin search.

Hi, and welcome! No worries, I also started out that way. Over time I learned that I had to pick specific themes or I was going to run out of money and room! The good thing is that you can collect what you like now and then always whittle it down later on.

Hi and Welcome!

Airplane collection... what a great idea.

People all collect differently. I met one person who completed sets and then traded them all away to complete another set. They never kept anything, just enjoyed the trading and completing of set.
