How would you do it?

I will be making a 2 part move with roughly 3 months between moves and I can not decide how best to move my pins...

I have 12 large cork boards (roughly 2 x 3) and 6 smaller ones- most completely filled

They will not be on display (no room) until the 2nd move but I would like easy access to them (as I somehow bet I'll get and trade more pins between now and then)

The options:
Keeping them on their cork boards and getting a box big enough to hold multiple boards (but afraid of the pins getting damaged if I pull the boards out for any reason and the weight of the boxes)

Keep them on their cork boards without a box stacked against each other

Getting smaller sheets of foam/foam core and transferring them to smaller plastic containers

Somehow get enough pin bags (estimate I'd need 8-9)

Any ideas I'm not thinking of?

I have to say that while I loved my cork boards, the bags are seriously a better way to cart them around. They take up less space and in my opinion are less likely to be damaged. I recently had the experience of moving a 20,000 pin collection that was being sold from the collector's house on cork boards and totes. He had 80+ full sized cork boards loaded with pins and sadly some were damaged and pin backs were bent (this was before we moved them, he just had so much crammed onto boards and lying around/against each other). I loaded them flat - one on top of the other to keep them from getting jostled, but still it made me uneasy because it's so easy for them to fall off and get bent.

I've since been slowly adding pin bags and making the switch and I have to say I really like them The totes worked really well as well but we had the pins in individual jewelry boxes and some still came in their packaging.

I'd keep them on the corkboards, but wrap them in something soft (towels, blankets) and then secure them with stretch wrap (you can get it at Walmart, home improvement stores), and then box them.

Buying eight to nine pin bags would be expensive! I don't even own one, because they are so expensive.

I would probably go buy one empty pin board, take off the pins that you are most likely to trade in the next 3 months, put them all on the new board, and make that one accessible in your temporary home.

Then in 3 months, you'll have a bunch of newly traded-for pins to add to your boards when you unpack them at the new place. Fun times!
