suffice it to say, I've felt pin prices were plenty high already BEFORE the BIG increase that just went into effect. I've fired off an email to them, and hope I get a REAL response...those of you who know me personally know that I have bought a lot of pins at both DLR and WDW for me and for trade. This is going to change radically for me in light of this cost increase.

Well, I hope you get a response. But, I want to know what you're talking about! Was there some kind of info that came out with a price increase or you just noticed it while purchasing pins? I see that my family of four will be buying less pins if they just raised prices!
 
Really no info released, just an increase of $1 per pin, every pin. The CM that helped us rang up the pin 3 times because she said it was $1 less just the day before. Even the CM'S working that morning had no idea. It just happened overnight.... From our understanding this was at both WDW and DL.
 
So that's a 11% markup on the $8.95 pin and a 6% markup on the more expensive $15.95 pins. Pinching more money out of us when we all know they are already making a huge profit is just not fair. I bet they say the cost of the HM's not being recouped by the scrapper issue is the reason. Greedy pigs. I feel worse for the non-AP's that have to pay full price. At least I still get 20% off.
 
Why do they always do this 4 months into the year when we are all buying our monthly pin series? Very sneaky! It makes me so mad! :rant:
 
I remember when pins were $6.

You can complain to them about the price increase, but it won't deter them from raising it. Most of the pin buyers are not us, the collectors, but the common tourist who buys a handful of pins to take home. They are willing to shell out the retail cost (with out the AP discount). Another good example are the Annual Passes. When I first got my AP it was $99. Now its close to $400.

Since I've been collecting (since 2002), Disney thinks we are more of a pain in the arse than beneficial... but as long as we spend the money, they'll appease us. If you stop spending, and hit the pocket book, maybe they will listen. Until we all stop (which won't happen) the prices will go up.

Completely agree! These prices are for the tourists who are willing to spend the money. Serious pin collectors make up a small portion of pin sales.
 
Oh really, convince a member from The Netherlands, that our pins have not increased on our end . He thinks I'm scamming him . After I traded a Tangled Gondola UK pin LE 300 or less ? for a Finding Nemo LE 2000, which my hubby wants for himself now . This member is still getting a Finding Nemo POMP as he asked and I'm sending him a Beloved Tales Finding Nemo $14.95 plus shipping to me and zapping him a Dale PTN $15.95 from WDW . I decided not to try and get the Chip from DL . Perhaps he will get it from someone else .
 
I also noticed...not sure when this started....there are NO LE's with "blue" colored tags anymore...at least not while the price was $8.95 for blue...I'll see when next I go to the parks...They did once raise and then lower the "value" of the colors...I'm sure b/c sales went down..
We can only hope they see sales going down again. Most of the tourists I SEE buy the less expensive pins....so I still think bona fide collector purchases carry "some" weight.
 

I'd agree with that. I think there are varying degrees of collectors but I'm sure we carry some serious impact. But those of us who go 2-4 times per year are probably more likely to buy with the higher price than locals. We have fewer opportunities and the cost of the trip as a whole is so much higher paying $1 extra per pin is still a small percentage of the trip. That said, I did cut back on the last increase. And with the tables gone, my pin shopping is now down to ONLY what my family wants to keep. No more buying pins for trading.
 
Green tags = $7.95Red tags = $ 8.95Blue tags = $9.95Yellow tags = $11.95pink tags = $13.95Also don't think ANY LEs have blue tags anymore
 
boycotting not a problem since our budget cannot handle this increase.
I want any of my holy grail pins, I gotta trade for them now, and no new pins for my trade book.

Please dont let them release any new tangled since I cant buy them. LOL
 

I don't remember what my parents paid for APs back in the mid-1980s, but maybe $25 (?) - and it was good all 365 days of the year. When we got APs again in 2003/2004, the premium was $239-ish. When we got them again in 2008, deluxe was $239-ish. Now it's $379 ($500 for premiums)

I remember last year they did this around the same time. Then after a couple of months they brought the prices back down again. I think people were not buying as much. So I guess the answer is it varies. But over time, the prices have indeed gone up a great deal.
