I sent out a few trade requests, got an email this morning asking for, what I think is a fair counter-offer trade:

"[FONT=Comic Sans MS, sans-serif]i'd be willing to do the following trade:

leopardpolkadotspots offers ** this pin: Pin 4942
(DLR - Princess Crown

(Silver))

leopardpolkadotspots offers *** this pin: Pin 24502
(WDW - Journey

Through Time Pin Event 2003 (Villains)
1950-1961-1994)

Pin 28830 (WDW - Lights, Camera, Pins #8 (Princess Hand
Prints)

i am offering this trade because of the LE # differences of the pins|"

I went to check references on DizPins but cannot find any...any advice? Shall I trade or not trade? It seems to be a fair trade but I am unsure.

Ask if they are new to Pin Trading, or have changed their ID that is used for references. If they have NO references I tell them, politely, that it is common in the hobby to have them send their pin first and upon receipt I will mail my pin.

I have done this for years without any probem.

New pin users won't have a Dizpins reference. The most you can do is take a leap of faith and hope for the best.

I would ask if they have changed e-mails I have references that I tried to get moved over 2 years ago and have given up asking so they might be in the same situation. If they have none, ask if they can either send first and help them get the references.

See if the person would be willing to do the trade through a pinpics moderator as a neutral third party.
This.

I have a question: Are you more reluctant to make the trade, because she sent a counter-offer? Or is it just her lack of references that is holding you back? I'm just wondering, because I never thought that making a counter-offer would make someone distrustful of me (unless it was an unreasonable counter-offer).

My guess/hope is that it's just the lack of references that is bothering you, but I just want to be sure. I hope I'm not offending people (in general) with counter-offers.

I would ask them to send there pin first with a dc and send you the dc#, tell them you will send your pins as soon as you get the dc# , thats what was asked of me on my first trade and I had no problem with it . Oh and it looks like a decent trade

I think this is very agreeable. Where is your trading partner? US or UK or elsewhere in Europe? Delivery Confirmation might not work for different countries.

Could the person have EBAY refs?I would ask them that

I first would ask if this person has eBay feedback that could serve as references instead of actual references. Failing that, I would ask about a third party trade if you still want to make this trade but aren't comfortable just trading straight out with someone who is new and doesn't have any references.

Good luck. I hope this trade works out for you.

When I made my first internet trades, experienced traders asked me to send my pin first. I was happy to do it, because I wanted to get the references and build up my reputation. One trader told me early on, "Sorry, but we need to be careful and so should you." Every new trader should hear that.

I think someone with LPS's standing in the pin community has every right to make that request.

Hi PixarPerils - yes, its the no references that is discouraging me. At the beginning of the year, I made a few trades w/o looking at references - only to find, weeks later, that I never received the trading pin nor any emails from them and then when I did check references, they had none :( .

I have emailed her asking if she has any references and hope to hear from her soon. Thank you to everyone for your advice, I will keep you posted.

That's great news. Hope it works out for you!

PS: While I have your attention, how many Jasmine pins do you still need, now that you got the ones in the mail yesterday?

I've been following the number in your siggy. It's really fun to see other traders having that level of success. It gives the rest of us hope!

Hello Pamela!

I edited my signature a few hours ago. I think its 84 - that is excluding the new UK pin and the new USA pin coming out. It is now getting really hard to narrow them down, though! If you can help at all, I will be ever so grateful. :)

Oh, I SOO wish I could help!

I just looked at your wants, under chloesjasminepins, and I don't have any that you still need. But if I happen to come across any, I'll try the best I can!

Could you explain how you still need 84 on your signature, but only 73 on your PinPics Id? (I'm just curious. :) )

How many "wants" you see, is dependent on your settings. So if you don't have Buttons checked on your Pinpics, you won't see any Buttons that people want. Ditto for AP pins, prototypes, accessories.

Hi Leopardpolkadotspots,

John Gibson said,

This is what I would do, because every one has the right to build up references, and traders with references have the right to worry if a trader has none. Sending the DC# does not prove what is inside the envelope. I do not see a need to involve a third party either. This has worked for me for 6 years now.

I got a response from the trader:

[FONT=Comic Sans MS, sans-serif]i've got references on dizpins.

let me just double check that i still have this pin, it was in a pending trade when i hadn't heard from you. i'll let you know next week when i'm back home if that's okay

Just wait to hear from her now. She does sound genuine but I get worried about no refs.

Thanks for everyone's help:)
