List of commonly scrapped/fake pins

I'm fairly new to pin collecting and have no idea how to spot a fake, but I've read how people know that certain pins are commonly scrappers so my question is, is there a list of these pins somewhere? Maybe we can start one?

There's a lot of previous threads on DPF that you can search to learn the basics of what to look out for. I think there's just so many scrappers that it'd be hard to keep an ongoing list. I'm also kinda new, but I've learned a LOT. I've also learned that basically a ton of Hidden Mickeys are scrappers, and I've noticed a lot of Winnie the Pooh and friends as scrappers, too. It definitely takes practice and it'd be worth looking over the Pin Comparison threads. Good luck!

Years ago, I went on a Google frenzy locating images the Chinese Factories were using to sell on marketplace websites. I put them together here. http://scrapperfiles.blogspot.com/

Now, the best way is to be familiar with some sellers on Ebay and track what they are selling. There is a list that makes its way through the Facebook groups. The worst offenders are the ones that get referred to here as the hot and cold sellers from Hong Kong.

Honestly if you have a pin in question- go to eBay find it and look both at active & completed auctions.. if it shows up repeatedly for low value, identical auctions & or is being sold from Hong Kong.. odds are sky high it's been scrapped

Assume that all hidden mickeys you see on cast lanyards - other than some of the very newest - are all scrappers.

In fact, assume that 98% of what you see on cast lanyards are all scrappers. Most people buy cheap fake pins and flood the lanyards with them, so it's difficult these days to find anything legit in the parks.

Key factors to look for are: weight (do the pins feel really light and cheap? likely fake), colors (do the characters look wrong i.e. skin color, clothing color, etc.? likely fake), are there borders (on the back around the very edges of the pins? likely fake), quantity (do you see hundreds of the same older pin all over the lanyards? likely fake).

And so many pins have been faked, it might be easier to list what hasn't been. 😛

I recently pulled almost all my HM pins from my collection because most were fake. Again, I'm a casual trader and didn't know all these fine details previously. And honestly, so are so well do that it is VERY hard to tell the difference. Also frustrating since I spent money on real pins in Mystery Packs and traded them for ones on lanyards that turned out to be scrappers.

There's no list. You just have to check each pin to see if there are scrapper warnings. Yes, it's kinda annoying, but eventually, you'll see the trends.

^ And there are a ton of pins that have been faked that have no scrapper warnings on PinPics. So you can't just go by that site. As noted above, ebay listings are a bigger warning sign.

I was disappointed too when I did this with my collection some time ago....a number of hidden mickey pins ended up being fake.
