Disney is doing a replacement program. I've been trying to get the people on this forum to care about this for quite some time now.
It's like watching it for the first time. I haven't seen it in years as I never owned it on VHS or DVD, so it's like watching it for the first time. What am I missing that is different? I have seen things I haven't remembered, but I'm loving it. Sitting here in tears.
It's a HUGE deal. It may be subtle to some, but to create an animation sync error in the very HEART of the film and then claim it doesn't impact the integrity of the film is downright insulting to those that made it and those that love it. Ariel is clearly animated to that verse, and seeing her motion to it while singing nothing damages the final impact of the song. It's not the only foulup from the restoration/conversion process. The fade on Scuttle's intro is gone (yet the music still cues it), and the credits have been shifted so they're not as in sync with the music as designed (as well as dropping the Silver Screen Partners IV credit). The last I can live with though even if it's a change made that really should only affect the 3D version. It's a huge deal indeed when you consider that this is one of the companies biggest films, how so much of this disc they got right after the recent awful slew of animated blurays (the colors, no DNR scrub to death of the grain and sound vastly improved over the mediocre Platinum release) and the simple fact that there is NO excuse for that getting past Quality Control (much like the Lion King cloud issue). None.
The only good news is I've been hearing that they're fixing the digital copy versions. So obviously it's nothing hard to fix and little reason not to offer replacement discs for those that ask.
And here is Disney’s response via their Consumer Relations:
Thank you for contacting Walt Disney Studios.
In preparation for its Blu-ray release, THE LITTLE MERMAID went through an intensive re-mastering process. Unfortunately, a minor oversight led to a switch of two small cuts during the “Part of Your World” scene.
There is no impact on the quality or overall experience of the film.
We hope this provides you with the information you require. However, if you require any further information then please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind regards,
Disney Consumer Relations
I'm reading that Disney is offering a replacement program and certain digital copies have been fixed. Officially, it' correct the PoYW error, but I'm also hearing they restored the Scuttle fade. Currently, they're only replacing 2D versions.

I'm beyond grateful that enough people cared in the fandom and the company to set this right. Looks like I may be able to retire my 1990 Laserdisc after all. Shame the bishop will never get his knees back though...
I just bought the DVD/blu-ray version this week (did not pre-order it). Are we supposed to send our diamond edition dvd back to them for replacement? Or will they just ship out a new one?
