New Collector!
Hello all! My name is Brittany. I am 28 years old and I'm a pretty big Disney fan. I have a 17 month old daughter and a 4 month old son. My mom moved to Florida about 5 years ago. I've been 1-2 times a year since then and while we don't always do the theme parks, we are always going to Downtown Disney. Forget the new name, I will always call it Downtown.
I just started collecting pins yesterday! I know, I know. It's a big, crazy pin world out there!
Here's how it started. At Animal Kingdom I found a small Winnie the Pooh pin on the ground. It's funny because my 4 month old son was with me and his baby shower was Pooh. My husband and daughter are back home because the trip was just 4 days to surprise my mom for her birthday. My two aunt's flew in as well.
So at Downtown my aunt's wanted to go in for a gift for the kids. I decided that I would like to join in on the pin collecting. My son got the blue First Pin Set and my daughter got the pink. I also bought a few mystery packs for them. I love the mystery packs, it's half the fun.
Another part to the story is that both kids and I were visiting my mom a month ago. I know, my poor husband, always working. He's really OK with it, his idea of a vacation is not spending the week running around with my mom. While at Downtown, I let my 17 month daughter loose to pick out something. She picked out a tiny Bambi plush. After we got home she really attached to him.
I wanted to find a Bambi pin. I really didn't want to buy the $40 set so I went looking for him. No luck. Then that's when I really started getting into the pins. It's all about the thrill of the hunt. On our way back home yesterday I started to think about something. I had a Bambi pin at home that my Grandma had given me. It never registered until then. I looked it up online and it was actually an 10th anniversary edition pin. We had never been to anything Disney as kids growing up. How she had gotten it, I don't know.
But it was funny: the pin I found with him was Winnie the Pooh and the pin I have had for years was actually a Disney Pin of Bambi, a pin I was looking for and a pin that matched the fog my daughter picked out.
So I'd really like to start collecting things for the kids. Pins and snail mail from other people all over. I'm going to try and be social and post in other boards as well. But my goal is to try to collect letters, stories, pins for the kids so that this is something that they will have growing up with their Grandma, or Nanny as she likes to be called, living in Florida. I loved snail mail and pen pals growing up.
So that's my story. Working on getting a P.O. Box set up and enjoying getting to know new people!
