Hey there,

I'm new to the forum and decided I should probably introduce myself instead of lurking. :) I started pin trading a few years ago on a trip to DLR with my boyfriend. I'm a sucker for anything collectable and had been tempted to start collecting pins about ten years ago on a fam trip to WDW. Each Disney trip I talked myself out of it and then my boyfriend bought me a little mermaid pin set in the parks and I gave in. So... what I'm saying is its his fault! :P

About 6 months later I did the DLR college program and my pin trading really took off. At first I collected pins that I just liked, but I had to narrow it down a little or else I would have gone overboard. Right now I collect the little mermaid, but Christmas/winter holiday pins are my favorites.

My boyfirend is now my husband and we both trade pins in the park when we visit, as well as on pinpics. I'm excited to post and read more here!

Welcome! It's always nice when both you and your husband can enjoy pin trading together! How was your experience with the DLR college program? Can you explain it a bit, please? Just curious!

Welcome my wife and I just joined DPF she has been collecting since 2001 and I just started in January of this year now Im addicted and can't wait to find new pins or trade for ones I like.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

Yeah, no problem. The Disney College Program is basically an internship at Disney where you work an entry level job in one of their parks, resorts, etc. There are professional level internships also available for higher (generally supervisory) positions. I was offered a couple of positions as a lifeguard at Disneyworld and Disneyland over the years, but with my school schedule it never worked out. In 2010 I was offered a role in photopass at Disneyland/California Adventure and took it. I was there for 8 months and had a positive experience.
I lived in college program housing in Anaheim. When you do that they take rent out of your pay, but I found it to be pretty reasonable considering the area and condition of the apartments. They had housing activities and special backstage events and tours for College Program participants. We also were required to attend professional development classes as part of the program.
I'm starting to feel like I'm rambling, but if you have any questions about it feel free to ask. :)

That's awesome! I love having pin trading in common. We keep tabs on each other's most wanted pins and sometimes suprise each other with them. On trips to DLR I'll save us seats for Fantasmic and he'll make a "pin run" or something. What kind of pins do both you like to collect?

It sounds like you enjoyed your DCP internship! What an experience! It's always nice to find out behind the scenes info about Disney. As for me, I collect specific Maleficent, Captain Hook, Small World/Mary Blair and WDI pins. I love WDI pins!!! I think the quality of the pins are better than most that are out there.

Thanks for the info! And you didn't ramble, btw!

As a cast member I could go to WDI and buy pins. I LOVE them! I regret not getting more while I was there, but I did get some fun ones and the WDI Sorcerer Mickey pin bag so I can't complain too much. :)
