Hello all! I'm brand spanking new to this pin trading thing. Spent my honeymoon at Disney world and got my first pack (the nerd heads) so still really building my collection. Anywho hello!

Welcome! : D I'm sure you will enjoy it here, members are friendly and helpful! If you have any questions just ask :- )

Hello and welcome to DPF! Lots of great information can be found in the Disney Pin Discussion section, as well as in the Pin Comparisons section (which can be very helpful when trying to avoid trading for a scrapper pin.) The community here seems to be quite helpful, and very nice.

I'm seeing! Still in the collecting phase and (the most expensive phase ) I've heard about the scrapper pins so yeah I'll be bookmarking that thread!

I hear you there! I'm new to collecting myself, and find I can't leave the parks without "just one more purchase" lol! My wife was complaining a little bit about the cost of purchasing pins, but then the new Vera Bradley Mickey design came out on Friday, which, after she bought two different styles of the print, gave me a bit more leeway in spending some money on pins at Food and Wine yesterday!

Also be sure to check out the Pin Guides and FAQs section, as there's lots of great info there about the acronyms and such that are used in the hobby (I still have to refer to it regularly, as I still don't have all the acronyms memorized yet.)

Most importantly, stick with collecting what you like, and have fun!

yeah all the problems... hubby knows I like fashion (own a mickey vera Bradley and wallet which I bought for the honeymoon, a mickey dooney & Bourke (which thankfully was a gift from my mom). I wish they had more pins online or in the Memphis store because friends gave us Disney gift cards for wedding gifts... most of which didn't get opened until we got back.

Well you'll just need to convince your husband that you guys need another trip to Disney to take advantage of your gift cards! But as far as ordering online, it seems like most pins can be ordered from Merchandise Guest Services (over the phone or through email) at Disney's official pin page (I'm not sure if it's ok to post a link to there or not, but the url for the website can be found on the bottom of the backer card for any open edition pin bought on-site at Disney.) Apparently, all you need is the sku (which you can also find through their official page.) You can select the location (like Walt Disney World) as well as the month/year of each pin's release, and the listings for that month come up. When you click on a pin you like (through the 'Read More' button), it will bring you to that pin's specific page, that will list the sku, the price, the release date, a description of the pin, and information for ordering it through Merchandise Guest Services. Not sure if you can use gift cards or not, as I've never personally ordered through them (since I live close to the parks, and can just take a ride over there whenever I want), but I'm sure if you contact Merchandise Guest Services (through their email or phone number, both of which are available on the official site), they'd be able to tell you if you can use a gift card, and if so, how to use it. That may at least expand your options for being able to purchase new pins that aren't available on the regular Disney store online, and without having to resort to e-bay and paying above retail for something new that's an open edition.

Hope this info helps!

I'm aware of that process. in fact got some listed that i'm calling about on Monday! Never hurts to try to use those cards!! lol. what he doesn't know I'm planning an anniversary trip in my head! lol but that's a year from now :-/

A year goes by quickly (and to me, it seems the older I get, the faster the years are going by lol!) But glad to hear you're already aware of how to get pins that your local Disney store may not carry, without having to resort to e-bay. Note that I'm not saying anything negative about e-bay, it's just a far riskier proposition as far as you can't be 100% sure you're getting an authentic pin until it arrives and you can check it for yourself, and it also tends to be more expensive than just buying from Disney directly. In any case, just have fun with it and again, welcome to DPF!
