Hi Everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself, I have just ordered my first pins ever and am already obsessed! I went to DLR as a child and just could not get over Disney! Now, in January 2014 I am going to WDW for the first time and want to have trading pins when I get there. I have done a fair amount of research and I think am starting to find my niche as far as what I like. So the plan is, from now until then, to build a small collection of keepers narrowing down the focus of my burgeoning collection, AND acquire some traders for use in the parks. Any advice/tips for a first time visit to WDW seeking to do some pin trading?

Hi and welcome! I live near DLR and am at WDW only a couple times a year so there are probably others who have more advice than me. One thing I can say is WDW is the number one resort as far as number of cast members who pin trade. You can't go five feet without encountering a lanyard on a CM. My husband was there in May for Star Wars weekend and couldn't really concentrate on the festivities because he was constantly scanning lanyards for pins that I need (good husband!). If you trade with them and don't see something you like on their lanyard and they seem to have time to talk to you, don't be afraid to tell them what you're looking for. Some of them have extra bags of pins they carry around to replenish throughout the day and they may have just what you need.

Also, if you're at Magic Kingdom, try to find Scoop. He's the Main Street reporter and is a resident Disney pin expert. I've heard it's an amazing experience to meet and trade with him. I hope to meet him myself in October when we're there. I've heard he's normally there Monday and Wednesdays in the morning. Hope that helps, enjoy your trip and welcome to the Forum!

Hi and welcome! :wavey: I haven't gotten to experience pin trading in the parks yet, because on our last trip I didn't break down and buy our first pins until our last day, which was spent at Downtown Disney. Can't wait to do it next time though!

Hello and welcome! I've only been to WDW once, so I can't offer too much advice there, but I'm sure there are others who can.

Dont expect to find a HOly grail in the parks? hmmmm,,,,, remember that January in Fl is still cold, ok not 10 below like some places but we do get to freezing, and its not all dole whips...

have fun ,stay warm and enjoy the trading, by the 1st of Jan most of the snowbirds are gone, so it will be you, the cms and us locals~~~

happy hunting
and welcome to the forum~~~

My daughter and I are tentatively planning a trip to WDW next February, finances permitting. It will be my first visit to WDW and I'm very excited. Welcome to the forum and have a fun trip!

Thanks Everyone. Glad To Know Things Will Be Slower In Jan. And I Hope Your Trip Goes Great As Well, Cjvandever!

Hey there and welcome to the forum. WDW is huge and you can't go anywhere on property without meeting a Cast Member with a trading lanyard/pouch on. If you're looking for traders, you'll find inexpensive ones here for sale or if you have transportation at WDW, there are a few local Disney Outlets that you can get out of season pins for cheaps. I'm impartial to Magic Kingdom because they probably have the best CM Pin Replenishment station of the parks, but definitely be on the look out where ever you go. For instance I got a couple of Annual Pass pins at Epcot that was on a lanyard at the camera shop by Space Ship earth.

WDW is awesome for pin trading!
There is a pin store in every park (one behind space ship earth in middle of Epcot in front of fountain which also has tables in front of it where people will set up there pin books to trade, below the hat in Hollywood Studios, traders in magic kingdom next to country bears, and in animal kingdom I can't think of the name right now.. But it's outside one the main stores) in downtown disney is the biggest pin store where they sell all the hidden mickeys/ LEs / Passholder exclusives.
At every park they have pin stands set up too where they sell rack pins, Starter sets, and Lanyards. Also, at all (or most) of the hotels they bring out pin boards in the morning, and depending on where you are staying Community hall and the store will have pin books behind the counter most of the day too. Also, in Magic kingdom in the Town hall they have a pin book in there and in the candy store there is one too.
One of the places where ive found some of the best pins is on the lanyards of those who work at DVC stands. They usually only have 1 or 2 workers per thing but always have lanyards and for me a lot of them have had baggies of pins in their desks. As others say most cast members walking around having lanyards and when we were just there some of the stores and walk up food places had boards set up so there is definitely a lot of places to trade from there.

Hi and Welcome to DPF!!! I love trading at the Magic Kingdom, lanyards are everywhere!!! I've even had great luck trading with newbies who just bought a starter kit and just want to trade! I am going to Downtown Disney next week and can't wait! Another fun thing to do is to go to all the hotels on property and ask to see their pin books or trading board! That's how I plan on spending next Thursday!!! Ft. Wilderness Lodge, Port Orleans, Saratoga Springs are just a few of my favorites!!! TTFN

Wow, thanks everybody! I don't log on for a couple of days, and look what happened . . . so many helpful comments. It's awesome that each resort has a board or pin book! And thanks for taking the time to list all of these locations. We're hoping to show up in January with 10-20 traders, and I'm sure I will purchase some pins while there. I think this pin obsession might force me to allot more to the souvenir fund. ;) I heard somewhere, can't remember how, that sometimes you can get a restaurant pin complimentary with a meal? Is that so? We will be on the dining plan, so even if it is, I'm assuming that it won't apply to us?

Hmmm.. I'm not familiar with that, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist!
we always do the DDP and haven't ever gotten any sort of pin with that, but if something like that exists I'm interested .
