Price increase on UK pins..your thoughts?

Well, seeing as the Mulan pin came out this morning in the UK and I wanted to have a moment to think about this properly as I have already stated on the disney store facebook page that I am not happy and there are quite a few people I know who think the same as me.

A little back story. The UK pins that have been limited edition that have not been online exclusive have been £7 except a given few which were less to about £5. Now when they started trying to make online exclusives a thing in the UK with better designs as the first few were online only I believe and they sat there for ages as no one wanted them Skip ahead and they tried this again and the lowest ones were LE200 and cost £9 same as the earlier ones so fair enough no price changes lower edition sizes, good idea.

Fast Forward again to last year when they started rolling out the LE150's for the same price which was great up until this year where orders were being halved due to demand and then to the announcement they were stopping the 150's for the forseeable future until they can get there butt in gear I guess. And that pins will sold online ONLY.

Well, brings me to todays release. the Mulan pin is LE500 and with a dangle. they are charging £9 for the pin and classing the pin as being complicated design and so price has gone up by £2 and for those that have no features will remain at £7. This to many is a complete joke as lat year in october DisneyStore UK released the Alice in White Rabbits House pin with a HINGED feature and that was £7 Limited edition LE350. Monster Inc door released in September LE350 was £7..

Yet after the announcement they now want to charge us £9 to have an extra feature which just last year we was paying £7 for the exact same thing like dangles, spinners, sliders etc I dont see Disney's logic behind this one as it makes no sense what so ever why would anyone who has been paying £7 for at least 2 years on pins with dangles etc to now be expected to pay £9 cause they NOW class it as a complicated design.

To me this is just a sneaky trick to get people paying £9 for pins since THEY THEMSELVES removed the LE150s from there release schedule.

Am I being to picky about the price increase or not?? I know many are not happy since it should have been £7 regardless of what was on the pin plain or not.

I've pretty much had enough of UK pin trading and almost ready to call it quits after 12 years It's not even a £9 pin anymore if you take postage into account as you have to buy it online and not from a store!! As you can only purchase 2 pins it is actually a £10+ pin.

I think the price hike is uncalled for, unjustified and just plain unfair. Shame that the UK disneystore probably won't reconsider the price change either, or fix the problems with the LE 150's

Boo is right. Haven't they raised the price on Disney pins enough. I say we boycott them.

Don't feel singled out.

Last year the PWP pins in parks went from $1.00 US to $2.95 US.
All pins in parks went up by about $1.00 last month.
Even the DSF $4.00 bin changed to $5.00 recently.
They discontinued special Disneystore.com pins.
Most Store locations in the US (Disney stores) no longer carry pins at all... But jee, they carry vinylmations.

That gets a boo from me. I'm going to be less likely to buy my two pins purely for trades with that.

Though over at the site I see the Mulan pin is still available. Discerning buyers put off by the increase or another DS.co.uk screw up?

I speak for the people. They are getting way too greedy.

Just my 0.02c worth! Disney can basically charge what they want, increase prices when they want - it's their call. However the price hike for the Mulan pin is a complete joke considering the pricing of previous releases - £5, £7, £9 for certain pins/LE sizes/features. As Donna mentioned if you just want 1 of these pins then it turns into an £11.50 ($18+) pin or a £14 ($22+) pin if you order outside of the "half price mailing" window.

BUT if you compare the basic pin price to those pins of similar available in WDW/DLR - the newest upcoming LE500's are listed at $13.95 + tax (approx $15) - no difference in price if you take off the UK mailing cost (£9 = $14.60) at today's exchange rate!

Disney may start learning a lesson from this release as even now the Mulan pin can still be ordered on-line more than 48 hours after release, whether this is down to the character or the price increase I do not know

I think none of us would mind an increase in price if say a pin was a jumbo but for an ordinary pin that we have had plenty of before now then the price increase is un-justified pure and simple as they can not say its a complicated design when we have had many a dangle, spinner etc in the UK.

I would imagine the pin is still there due to the price as all the other pins sold out and they were £7 and people expected this pin to be £7 aswell and got a shock at £9.

The people that seem to be complaining now (myself included) are the ones who were unhappy about the website problems, but not to the point where we felt the need to go nuts at Disney. I think the people that complained direct to Disney have realised the error of their ways. Thanks to them, pins got pulled out of stores, edition sizes got raised and now what we're left with is an £9 "online exclusive" that is LE 500!

It reminds me of my post office in my town. Due to e-mail and such they are not getting alot of bussiness so due to lack of funds they raised the price for shipping and stamps and so on. To try and get enough money from the bussiness they have now. But because they raised the price alot less people are using them then before. They had to raise the price to try and get more money but lost people when they did, it is like a double bladed sword.
The only difference between my post office and disney is the DISNEY DOES NOT NEED ANYMORE MONEY!!! They are getting enough from all there movies/clothes/toys/parks etc.. Disney doesn't realize that the more they try to make money by raising the price the less they will do so by lossing people who would have bought!
Why does every big company always think they need more money and that they have to make it inconvenient for the working person, to get it what they want?!

Agree about the price increase - I didn't think the price was justified for that particular pin and I was shocked as expected it to be £7. I did still buy 2 though - one for my DD1 as she loves Mulan and one for trade but wish I hadn't bothered with the latter now....

The next release looks lovely - Ariel & her Sisters - wonder how that one will go. As I do wonder if the Mulan pin is still available as it's not the most popular of artwork and she isn't one of the most popular Princesses. Ariel is a different matter altogether and it is a very attractive pin

Did anyone else get a customer service satisfaction survey in their email from Disney? Needless to say, I raised quite a few of the issues mentioned on here in the survey answers!

As I see it...everything has gone up everywhere. The UK prices arent the only pins to have gone up.
But thats with everything, prices everywhere, from stamps to food, everything is creeping up in price. Its only natural that these would.

I have to disagree with you slightly, I know prices can go up whenever the business wants to but when they are trying to justify the price increase by saying the pin is complicated then thats purely a lie and a statement to hide the truth. They simply put the price up because they took down the LE150's which in effect would bring them in £9 every few weeks..

LE 150 x £9 = £1350

Mulan pin - LE500 x £9 = £4500

If the mulan pin was £7 x 500 = £3500...

as you can see they assumed people would buy it at £9 to get back the £1000 they would have lost out on from selling the LE150's

you can cleary see with them stopping the LE150's they were set to lose out on £1350 due to them postponing anymore LE150's. To me the way I see it they only increased it on pins with added elements to claw back the amount of money they were set to loose out on for dropping the LE150's.

to me is still a joke they have done this move.

I just find it annoy as surely its about pocket money as well as collecting
What I mean its one of the best adult hobbys yeah, but for children as a hobby its a bit expensive!! Does pocket money cover it these days lol
I have no kids but if I did I d be worried I think they should have kept the core range going for starters in trading and children who just want a pin of a char they like!!

I agree they should have kept the core pins as they could have kept them in-store for a reason for us pin collectors to actually visit the store, now I dont see any reason for me to venture inside a Disney Store. I know that sounds like Im going against disney god but its the truth.

But surely over the years prices increase on everything? when something becomes popular companies do bump up the price.

same here. the disney stores are too kiddy and everything is practically for ages 5 and under. and with no children theres never anything in there

I know what your trying to say but when it comes to pins even after almost 3 years collecting the pins have always been £7 regardless of it being pin on pin and all that jazz. Im just saying is this is an unfair increase on pins when we have paid the same amount for 2+years to then be told its a complicated desgin which I dont believe for a second is the reason why the price has been increased.
