I have an auction thread posted for a couple of Tinker Bell pins that ends today. I've been updating every evening of the top 3, as I stated I would in the original post. Now I've got a couple members 'bidding' and each time they bid they're one-upping each other. Is it alright for me to post who's in the lead, and give the other person a chance to increase their bid (if they choose) or should I just let it stand and announce the winner tonight when the auction 'closes'?

Basically, is it ok for me to update on leader changes more than once a day, as bids are altered? What are your thoughts?

As a bidder and an auctioneer I like to know who is in the lead. It gives me the option to raise my bids. I think everyone wins, so I like lots of updates if there are changes. That is just me though.

I also agree that constant updates are good. Say there are two people bidding for the same pin, but no one is sure who is in the lead. If I were #2, I'd certainly like to know that. That way I can decide if I'm willing to offer more/better pins to take the lead or give up and resign myself to not winning. Without the ranking I might think I'm #1 and I don't have to do anything and then get disappointed when I didn't win.

All you're doing is supplying these bidders with some knowledge; how they choose to use that knowledge is up to them!

I did that with my auction that ended earlier today. Each time the leader board would change from a bid, I would update the thread so everyone is up to par with my thoughts. I felt I was a bit annoying with my constant posts but in the end it worked wonders!
