Pin & Pop
geraldine
I recently attended an in person trading event and several traders were talking about their frequent trades on PinPics. I've enjoy trading on Pin and Pop and haven't traded on PinPics in part because maintaining two databases is a lot of work and in part because I'm worried about the other trader's pin never showing up. I was assured that traders are so worried about bad feedback on PinPics that it keeps most everyone honest. So the past few days I've updated some of my traders in PinPics, started looking around for trades, and sent some trade requests. So far most have not responded, one person responded that they aren't currently trading (I have no issue with that and appreciated that they responded), and one person that was plain nasty telling me my values were off etc. I responded to the nasty person saying we clearly aren't a good match for. trade but I appreciate their responding, and I explained my valuations were baed on Worthpoint and provided the data. That person responded that you should never value pins using Worthpoint and proceeded to send me an eBay for sale listing, not a sold listing, and said that was the value to use. I kindly explained that I think a sold listing is more useful than a for sale listing but I appreciated their response and again said we clearly were just not a good match for a trade. I thought I was done but they then responded again with the advice that I use Chat GBT for values not Worthpoint, and then proceeded to send me all their Whatnot platform information so I can participate in their sales. So far I am not having a good PinPics trading experience and I'm wondering how others have had so much success and whether I'm doing something wrong. So after that long backstory my questions are: Have you successfully traded on PinPics to the degree that it is worth the effort/time you put into it? If so, were you selective in who you sent offers to, and if so what was your process? Has my experience been atypical or typical to what you experience? Appreciate any insight you feel like sharing. Thanks.

I’m sorry to hear about your experience. I take issue with anyone telling anyone else how to value their pins. I will be following this thread because I have been thinking about updating my pins on pin pics (I used it as a database for like a month before I discovered pin & pop.) But maybe it’s not worth the trouble?

I did have one person reach out for a trade. I was very excited about it. Then they ghosted me.

I have been trading on PinPics recently. There was a long time where the trading was nonexistent. I had good luck
trading Hidden Mickeys and a couple of really high end trades as well.

There are always those quirky people who worry more about the cash value of a pin than a trade value. The people
I traded the high end pins with were mostly older traders who I happened to recognize their names. The HM trades were
with lots of different people.

There is a post on here called something like "PinPics Traders" that lists people who have traded with DPFers and whether
they were good or bad.

Keep trying, you may find you have decent luck.

I get about 10 percent response rate on PinPics. When they do go through, the trades are really good. I try to keep like for like when pin trading. I'll give a trade request a week or so and if no response I delete the message.

I've had very good trades on Pinpics. They come in waves though which is so funny. Sorry you had a bad experience. People like that are probably the nasty people that trade at the parks that I learned to avoid a long time ago. There is a thread on here called Pinpics the Sequel which lists all the good people so maybe that will help you. Also, what is your name on Pinpics and maybe some of us here can take a look. :tigger:

I have a spreadsheet to keep track of offers made and received on PinPics, when I make an offer I wait 10 days before alerting them that the pin is going back into trade circulation. I've noticed some people just don't respond to an offer either because they aren't online, or don't want to deal with the confrontation of it.
When you meet someone who's idea of 'value' doesn't match your own just make a note not to trade with them.

I recently came back to pins and trading and it's changed a lot especially because of the sub-market when it comes to pins and the number of re-sellers, it can feel very discouraging, but I've been so lucky on PinPics & DPF to meet the most wonderful people who still love this hobby and treat each other as fellow collectors and traders. Don't be to discouraged, there are plenty of great people and trades to be made on PinPics.

To let you know, of the 28 offers I've made since the start of the year it's been 12 accepted and happy trades, of the other 16 offers only about 4 people responded to my initial offer with a no thank you, or a reason they aren't currently trading at all (someone just had a baby, which was lovely!)

Love the stats!

I trade on pinppics and have not had any problems trading with anyone, as to valuing pins I do not like to do that but I do take in consideration what they have paid for that pin and if I really want it that bad, I have more problems trying to trade on face book as everyone wants pics of my pins, that will not happen as I have that many traders, please check out my pinpics maybe we can trade sometime

I have been trading via PinPics for years. I find it very good and typically have pretty good results, when traders respond and go through with the trade. Very frustrating when you get "no response" and you see that they have read the offer - but what can you do. After a week of no response I delete the request and conversation.

Pinpics has been getting better and better for trades in the past 3ish years. I try to respond to all trades that are sent to me, but I do get overwhelmed and get behind and have had traders leave the discussion before I can respond. I would say responses to trades I send out are well under 10%. There are some traders I don't bother with at all as they have reps for:
1) not responding... ever
or
2) only wanting trades in their favor

Suggestion for targeting your trade offers... the most active traders have a lot of feedback, so if you have matches with someone with a good amount of feedback, perhaps target them for a trade.

I enjoy reasonable debates, so if someone messages me like you describe above, I would have the debate until I get tired of it and if they continue to ping me... I would leave the discussion. But I am not sure I have ever had such an agressive experience as you describe above. So going to say it is rare.

I also walk away (politely) from traders I find agressive or rude. I never want any pin that much.

There is no wrong way to trade and we all trade differently. Makes the successful trades that much sweeter.

...Oh and I have 104 positive feedbacks on pinpics... so since pinpics added feedback I have made 104+ sucessful trades.

Working 2 jobs and babysitting grandkids on weekends has kept me away from being as active as before, but I do favor pinpics as a database for my pin inventory, it's just easier for me to add/remove and find pins. I also appreciate the many ways you can compare between 2 traders' collections, not just what ISO's you have of theirs to trade. You can see which pins you both own and which pins you own that the other trader wants. You can see which traders are looking for a pin and send multiple offers to multiple traders.

I also appreciate Pin and Pop for the Trade arcades, as that's where I'm pretty much doing all my trades now, so although it takes a bit of effort, I do maintain both accounts for the different benefits both provide.

I also maintain both Pin & Pop and PinPics, and actively trade on both. I'm so sorry you had such a negative experience with that other trader on PinPics. As others have said, checking feedback scores before making offers greatly increases your chances of making a successful trade. I have had many wonderful trades on PinPics, and am expecting a multi pin trade to arrive on Monday!
