Venting about weird TA request reply
I have about 80 trades requests or response to a request to answer
I completely understand your rant. However, I think this has more to do with the way TA is set up. For example: Every time I send out Trade Offers, I use an add-on called Toggle Em All so that I don't have to browse through the 100+ pins that are available for me to check for every pin. I want all the pins on my want list, but there are some pins that I have for trade that I would not trade for some specific pins on my wants... (Limited Edition pins for open edition pins, for example). My add-on does not recognize this though, so it clicks everything, and I submit. If I had to sit there and browse through every pin I would trade each and every time, it would take forever.
My biggest objective when I send out these offers is to get conversation/negotiation started. I don't consider it a formal straight up offer that the other person could outright accept right off the bat. Often times, it works out that way, but a negotiation is usually the result of the offer.
One of the things I do when trading is that I like to trade pins in trades of 3 for 3 or larger, to make shipping worthwhile. When I have a special "rule" like that, I try to type it up into the comment box...
However, again, I can understand your frustration.
Hi Suzanne, I sympathise, you certainly deserved a better response.
A high percentage of TA requests that I respond yes to, are never acknowledged, Ive grown used to it! Certainly sucks!
+1,000 especially when I accept their offer and reply with my address(UK) it seems to be the kiss of death to any possible trades lately π
Why? Is it exceptionally or unreasonably expensive to ship to you?? I know it costs a little more and it's probably a little slower, but it can't be insane???
Unfortunately when the mail rates went up last month, international went WAY up. A packages that used to cost $4 and some change now costs $7 and some change. π
I think there's a problem with postal clerks not knowing/caring about cheaper shipping options. Using the USPS site's postage calculator, here are some sample rates for a "Large Envelope" to the U.K.: $2.90 (2 oz.), $3.75 (3 oz.), $4.60 (4 oz.), and $5.45 (5 oz.)
A few average pins in a bubble envelope with some bubble wrap should generally be under 3 oz. (maybe Judy's have a couple extra ounces of tape!...lol).
There are requirements that the envelope not be too rigid and not vary in thickness by more than 1/4", but you can address those issues by how you package the pins. I know that several people (including Catz here on DPF) have sent me pins recently as "Large Envelope" and they paid only $2.25 (to Canada).
I've found that most clerks (rightly or wrongly) will gig you for the 1/4" variation. I know on my last trip I got charged over 9 dollars to ship 2 pins to the UK, and that was the only possible criteria they could've applied.I think there's a problem with postal clerks not knowing/caring about cheaper shipping options.
