WDW trading - Cautious Approach?

Hello all,

Granted I've been a member here a few hours but with work being slow I've had the entire ttime to read a bunch of posts that got me thinking.

The misses and I have been trading on a regular basis at our semi local Disney store. So far we have managed to trade a bunch (about 35) pins which we are sure are 'real' and not scrappers. My confidence on this comes from the fact a lot of them are LE from the UK released ones from past years.

Anyway I digress, the question I have now is... When I go to WDW in November should I be very cautious of what is on the CM lanyards, and also the content of pins in pin books for trade at locations around the resorts?

I am reluctant to let the pins go that we have taken time and effort to collect if it is for a cheap scrapper copy! Whilst I understand that after all they are only pins we spent a fair bit of money to obtain them so font want to lose out.

It seems from some posts that a lot I'd WDW CM lanyards are full of junk scrappers, is this the case? Are people heading to the parks with a cheap 50 from eBay and clearing out the genuine pins? Or are there so many there's equal of both?

Ive never traded in WDW so have no idea what it's like.

Your thoughts are appreciated
thanks
James

sadly yes, i go to WDW every two weeks and i don't even bother to look at CM lanyards because all i see is ugly obvious scrapper and sometime when they are not obvious and i happen to trade for it, 9 out of the 10 times is a scrapper when i take a close look at it. me personally only trade for the brand new hidden Mickey's when they get release before they scraps them.

it is sad but is the truth. that is why i now am doing vinylmation trading at the park instead of CM trading because CM lanyards are MOST OF THE TIME full of outlet $.99 pins or just ugly scrappers. :(

Be cautious of them. Just take a good look and you'll be fine. Or contact some of us locals for in-person trading. :)

I stopped trading on cm lanyards about three years ago and dont give up uk pins unless you are offered a le pin of equal value. Remember some of the uk pins e.g. up, tangled, brave etc have high value

I completely agree with simbanino. We only get to the parks 1-2 times a year, but the majority of what is on CM lanyards and boards are scrappers. We were lucky enough to be there in January when some of the hidden mickey perfume bottles were released so we felt comfortable with those as well as some of the shirts. As for trading at the Epcot tables, yes, the majority of people will bring their bags of scrappers to the table. I found that most people that had good pins were still looking for hidden mickeys so I plan to have quite a few of those next time. People were willing to trade a nice $10 limited edition pin for my hidden mickeys which seemed crazy to me, but I think most people are only collecting pins while on vacation so they are trying to complete those sets. I would definitely try to set up some trading with WDW locals while you are there. You will do so much better!

I'm out at WDW all the time. The lanyards are full of scrappers. I always check out the lanyards, hoping to find real pins, but I hardly ever find anything. It just makes me sick! I remember when lanyard trading used to be fun and every CM had good pins.

Hi Everyone,
Thansk for your responses. We travel on the 8th and fly home on the 23rd in the afternoon. That is annoying that the CM Lanyards are full of Junk, is this the same for the books at the resorts and suchlike? I guess it will be with the people on vacation bringing their scrappers.

I actually wrote to Disney and sent them a few scrappers that I had, they wrote back saying it's pretty much uncontrollable but sent me 6 core set pins nevertheless.

All in all at least I know now not to build my hopes up for November, a lot of my pins are just generic so I thought at least with CM's I'd be safe that they wouldn't mind what we had. I guess with WDW guests it's a different story, in my opinion ours aren't that good but maybe I'll post up some pics in the "collections" forums.

Thanks,
James

I for one would love to see what you have. I love trading for pins across the pond because they are different from what you see around here. Shoot me a PM with a list of what you have and maybe we can work something out. My trades list is pretty light right now but I will have more to offer the end of August after we come back from Disneyland.

The books and pin boards are usually full of scrappers too. I'm an optimist, I always look and hope to find something. Sometimes I wonder if they ever refresh them. I eat breakfast a lot at POFQ and the board in the gift shop looks like it never gets refreshed.
Sometimes you can find good pins on managers, if you get them early
