Please understand that this post is not meant as any attempt to attack Lansam and its plans for Pin Pics. This is simple inquire.
Lansam has stated that it plans to leave the current core features of Pin Pics free for all users. I assume this means the current database, search features, wants / owns / traders lists, and linking Trader A with Trader B would remain as is.
Lansam has stated that they will be offering a Premium Membership service which will be used to cover their operating costs. They affirmed during the recent chat they will not be seeking donations.
What are their operating costs? Corporations have numerous, from filings fees to payroll; from web design to marketing. Many of these costs we can’t know and it would be futile to estimate. However, one cost we do know is the servers based on previous Pin Pics fundraisers.
In 2010 it was stated that the servers for one year cost $4,000.
Now the Disney pin trading world is simple not that big. According to DPF statistics, there are currently approximately 770 “active members†(and just under 3500 total members). I am going to assume these numbers are reflective of the users for Pin Pics.
Assuming that these numbers are somewhat reflective, there is somewhere around 800 active pin traders online. From here, we know a number of them will want the premium service and some percentage will not. For easy math let’s assume there are 200 active pin traders on line interested in the premium service. This would put the price point at $20.00 a year.
So here is my question: For $20.00 a year, what extra services beyond the current levels offered would you expect? So far descriptions for premium service have been “professional analysis and multiple Images†and “enamel engineering.â€
What would you want for this price point? What would you expect them to analyze? Currently there are just under 90,000 items in the database. Do you want multiple pictures of each item?
Would you be interested of being able to better tailor your trade requests? Exclude persons without going through the Pending Trades? Being ranked higher on the trading results requests? Some type of pre-ranking of pins (ie, these pins are my grails and I will trade anything for it vs. I will definitely not trade this pin for Hidden Mickey) to help filter out annoying pin requests?
A special forum for premium members? Better smart phone access? A valuation guide? Ad free surfing?
Other ideas?
Again this is not an attack on Lansam or its members. I am not interesting in hearing how Lansam or its owners are allegedly devaluing this hobby or just this side of sainthood. These positions have been well covered in the threads. I am interested in knowing what DPF members here (a target audience I am assuming) would want for this price point (or another price point you think is reasonable).
Sincerely yours,
kajtdd
