Hershey Pins try but fall so short!

I live in Hershey Pennsylvania and have a HersheyPark Season Pass. I started to notice last year that Hershey started to put some effort into producing Pins.

Now I was just there on Sunday for Spring time in the Park and I was able to see they had A LOT more pins out. I realize it is hard to compare a amusement park / candy company to a theme park empire such as disney but

these pins fall WAY short of the quality of disney pins with the exception of a few.

I will try to grab a bunch of pictures next time I am there ( they open in May for the summer).

They have about 30ish designs out right now ( from what I can tell) and there are about 4 that I really liked.

I think the worst part about this is that they are adopting the whole " trade with a cast member" . Most of the workers have the pins on and walk around with them. The issue here though is that there are only a handful of pins that are actually out so the trading is just not there at this point. They have some pins that are 4.99 and some that are 9.99 but the 4.99 pins are actually nicer and well thought out ( Hershey Smores Pin is my favorite) than the 9.99 pins. I actually made a quick joke that I could spend 150 dollars on 30 $5 pins and then trade them for the $10 pins....which are horribly made anyway.

I know this is tough without pictures and this is just MY opinion. Although I have not seen very many people with the Lanyards around their necks so not too sure how the marketing is going for them.

I understand Disney started from a few pins too but look at what they had to work with LOTS AND LOTS of characters/parks/themes. Basically Hershey is going to have 20 different Hershey Bars doing different things....I realize that Mickey must have thousands of different variations but they are all relevant to me at least. LOL I do not know. Maybe that is a good point to make. If Hershey can sell 20 different pins with a Hershey Bar ( bowling /skiing/etc)then I guess more power to them

Pictures will be coming soon but the worst one I have seen so far was for a ride called the Sooper Dooper Looper. The design was partially there but the pin itself looks very very cheaply made. It opens up to show a coaster that you can spin with your finger. Just looked off a bit. Not worth the $10 pricetag

Well I am done ranting! Just thought I would express how I do not like the idea BUT Hershey is hoping to bank on the Pin scene. And regrettably I will most likely be buying those 4 that I really liked.

** The only good side from all of this was if you buy a pin you get a Lanyard for free** Now the Lanyards were looking pretty cheap as well but that was sorta nice of them to do

Universal Studios has started doing this also. I know they are doing it here in California. Not sure about the whole trading with a employee but they have the pins and lanyards.

Some of them are pretty cool ( majority are not) but there is not much to relate to a Chocolate bar or a pack of Twizzlers riding on a roller coaster at the park..lol

There's a Uk holiday camp/caravan holiday places that do pins too. They have there characters that they have pins for which are Rory the tiger, Bradley bear, I think its Ellie the elephant.

I haven't been to the holiday park in over 3 years (split the ex who's caravan it was) and they had pins, lanyards, pin bags and even tried to do trading. I did purchace a small pin bag, it houses all my Stitch pins :)

I would love to see pics of these pins. I might want one or two of them... :)
Also, do you know if any are sold at the Hershey store in Times Square? The last time I was there it was super packed and I didn't really get a chance to look around much.

I'd love to see these pins. I know I saw some at Six Flags, but it was a pretty limited selection, which is weird because they have all the great warner bros. and DC comics characters. Can't imagine why they wouldn't push it more. I haven't been to Knott's or Universal in a long time. I'd like to see what they have there. I have seen lots of pins at Dodger stadium and Edison field. Disney pins are best, but it's fun to have other stuff too!

While the employee trading makes me go what ?, I've seen Cloisonne pins sold every theme park I've been too all of varying quality. Post pics away.

I will be taking TONS of pictures the first day the park is open for the season! I should have on Sunday but I was not thinking correctly!

I will keep you updated!

Universal (Orlando) has been trying to do the whole "trade with a cast member" thing for a few years now, but it hasn't really taken off like WDW. They do have some pretty decent pins though, and now that they have Harry Potter-themed pins and lanyards I have definitely noticed an increase in people wearing them. I will take a few pics of the pin selections next time I go. :)

I'd definitely love to see some of these! Thanks!

Hard Rock Cafe also has a long history of producing pins for trading.

I hate to admit it, but they could teach us a few lessons as they have an excellent corporate pin trading page, and do not seem to have the same counterfeiting problems encountered by Disney. And amost all of their pin runs tend to be LE150/300 for the more collectable pins.
