We need to discuss a survival guide for the LGM trade tables for the upcoming summer. I am sure there are rules and logistics that disney would like us to follow, and i hope someone "in the know" on here can help with that. But i have a thought which i know has been discussed a bit recently....

What about moving the pin traders up to the seating area right above where we are now? I know a few traders have used it in the past, but it has never really caught on and i do not know if CM's would force us to move.

Here is why we need to figure out something:
  • Summer is coming, temp's can be over 105 mid day....
  • The blue wall of death reflects down on the tables and works much like a microwave on that area. Increasing the temp. That trade area turns into death valley mid day....
  • The location doesnt get much of the breezes because of the buildings around it. Prevent cooling.
  • There are not enough tables. On a typical thursday or Sunday the tables, walls and even the ramp have traders. its crazy.
Why i propose this area:
  • The area just above is enclosed, with at least 8 tables that can be shared, 2 traders per table. and seating instead of forced standing. That's 16 traders with space to sit with their books, plus the folks making the "rounds" easily.
  • More umbrella's for shade.
  • away from the Microwave blue wall of death.

Thoughts, opinions?

I would suggest moving to the old Motorboat Cruise dock. Taking up tables at a restaurant will likely lead to people complaining to the restaurant about pin traders and then the restaurant complaining to merchandising about pin traders which in the long run hurts the hobby. Plus is it really fair to make a family wander around looking for a table to eat their lunch on because you want to use the tables for pin trading?

The old Motorboat Dock is ideal... but really, anywhere far from a pin store would be great. Trading at the store helps generate pin sales so if everyone stopped trading there, Disney would make some changes to accommodate some of their best customers with more tables and added comfort.

Yeah...now that I'm reading what I wrote, that'll never happen.

What they need to do is clear that whole area with the old tree next to Westward Ho pin store, install a bunch of tables and chairs, add a tarp for shade... and voila, new trading area in the park.

My concern about the tables on the motorboat peir is that it is sooo far away from the original LGM location, that folks who dont frequent forums or the park won't find us. The small step of moving up above the LGM tables keeps us visible to the less regular traders.

I have not heard anything about a trade area at DCA, anywhere. The starbucks has planters out front, with stone benches, but no trade tables. I will be going to the park this week again, and will look into DCA locations if you guys want. :)

Good idea! I second the motion! Highly visible, and somewhere between 2.6 and 17.89 times better than the Blue Wall of Death.

I will go where ever everyone decides to go!! let's do it!!!! it soooo hot over there even on a not so hot day. And 4 tables is NOT enough room for everyone. Ridiculous!

I still think we should do some trading outside Flo's V8 Diner. It's in the most popular area of the park at the moment. There is a pin store across the street, the lights at night are awesome, it has shade, there are multiple places to eat close by, and you can get a Fastpass early for RSR and use it at the right time.

I've heard a rumor of a pin trading area at the entrance of DCA, by the bathrooms and the lockers. I'm not holding my breathe. Another place close by is all the tables by Taste Pilots Grill by Soarin'. You have to keep us in a high traffic area for people to find us and to come up and ask what pin trading is about. Disney tried to relegate us to Big Thunder Ranch in the back-40 middle of nowhere. That didn't last at all.

Off Topic: That area is kind of wasted and they need to just put something else in there. Princess Fantasy Faire and the Jamboree area can all be used to make 1 or 2 large attractions. The land area of those two are bigger than ToonTown. Those area's aren't super popular and a few good attractions would help spread out the people. They're on the right track (no pun intended) by taking out Autopia and Innoventions and doing the Iron Man ride. Or at least, if those rumors are true.

On Topic:
I agree pin traders need some love. We spend a lot of money and bring them lots of business for us to just be pushed around. 3 Tables isn't really enough, especially when many traders take up a whole table. Rules are 1 book per person but noone follows or enforces that.

Can someone who has been to the starbucks location give us a good descrip of the area, and when people are showing up?

Mark: flo's would be excellent, but with carsland so busy, i doubt that they would let us take up a bunch of tables at their busiest restaurant right now.

off topic about tomorrowland geting a facelift. I heard the rumor about innovations go boom too. but not autopia. I an stunned they would consider it. autpoia just needs a face lift and hover cars. lol

While I love Autopia for the history and whatnot, it should be replaced or turn completely to an alternate fuel source. Those old gasoline powered cars do nothing for promoting the overall concept of Tomorrowland. Plus they stink.

Traders are going to go where traders are going to go. There will likely be no one place any more and everyone will be spread out. Prime location will remain LGM, until Disney decides to kick us out of there too.

I got bored one day and draw a whole new map of tomorrowland that included a pin area, and a new dark ride of marvel comics. i removed the people mover track, and captain EO and innovations. it was pretty cool.

Take out the Marvel attraction and replace it with as "The Grid" from Tron. Make the people mover track a light cycle ride, and you have a perfect Tomorrowland.

Having just visited DL for the first time at the beginning of this month I was sure surpised over the tiny area given to pin trading tables. I guess I had imagined something totally different. All in all it would be great if there was a better spot. However, the area at LGM could potentially still work if they replaced the few round tables with long rectangle tables.
