I'm old skool, started with pins when they were new. We're seriously considering downsizing to an RV when my son leaves for college next year. So... I have about 300 pins that are pre-2005. All Walt Disney World parks and resorts related -- my rule for collecting was it had to be a ride, a resort, a restaurant, a show, etc. that I'd personally experienced.

All I see on these boards are people talking about the newer stuff. Is there any interest in the old pins? Back in my day, nobody kept the backboards, mine are all just on a cork board. Does that hurt their value, now that everyone is trading store-bought pins?

Thanks for any insight. Trying to decide if it's worth the time and effort to sell them or if I should just find some room in our "tiny home" for 'em!

I had purchased pins in the same manner with an extra for trading, which had turned out very hard to trade with. Most of mine have dates or writing on them, and very few were princess related mostly commemorative at the park, which doesn't interest most traders.

Seems most want to be assured they're authentic, so the backer cards are important as well as condition. Some care more about the characters and aren't interested in the Fab 5. All in all I like the older pins, probably cause it's nostalgic, but in trying to keep up with what people want to trade for, would be hard to invest in.

Good luck and hope this helps, I'm on the West Coast so it might be different in other areas.

I love older pins... but i am much more character-centric than i am when they are released. Would love to see what you have.

I am ALWAYS looking for OLDER Villains related pins OE or not. Just can't find them anymore from newer Traders. Take a look at my Wants (Figment919) and see if you have anything I need, Thanks.

Older park pins are right in my wheelhouse. Although, I may have a lot of overlap. The reason why people are concerned about cards is because of the amount of counterfeits that are out there. But attraction/park/restaurant pins were never something that was counterfeited as frequently as the movie/character based stuff. So it shouldn't hurt value that much. Unfortunately, the reason is because others don't see the value in park pins, so they may be worth more to you in memories than they are in cash value.

I started collecting in late 1999 so I love the older pins. Allot of my pins are older also and I find it harder to trade also because there are so many people that only want the latest pins it seems.

Older pins are great. You sound like my friend Lisa who got me into pins. She would only get pins that had to do with a ride she liked, a resort she stayed at, or a restaurant she enjoyed. Then we got her into other pins, LOL.

I love the older pins! I started collecting in 2001 and miss the good old days..although I do love the new WDI pins..

Wow, if 2000-2005 is Old School, what am I? I started collecting in 1986! In the same boat, as I probably stopped buying a lot at the Parks over 10 years ago, and the majority of my traders are older pins. I now mainly just collect cast related event or theme pins now, so only need to add a few each year to the pin display frames! I would also like to see what you have. If anything on my wants (mko111) I would be interested!

I've been trying to sell a bunch of older park pins in my sales thread here and the majority of mine are on the original card and I still can't sell them at $5 each. So you may not get your value back out of them trying to sell them.

That said, I've been looking for an older pin for about a decade (the Walt pin in my signature) and it's a grail for me though others may find it of little actual value. So really it's all relative!

People interested in older pins?! See my pinpics--this name “propitaâ€!

While we might not be able to trade (my wants list is short, rare, and generally expensive), I’m willing to sell.

Lots of us like older stuff. Just depends on what you have and what you want. I bet some of us would like to trade if you have stuff we like. I would look at any NBC pins and or anything with Walt on it.

I love the older pins...especially the disney afternoon type pins (gummy bears/ducktales/rescue rangers/talespin/darkwing duck)

I love the older pins! I started collecting in 2004 and I only collected ones that I thought were cute- not specific collections. I'd love to see your collection!!

I love older pins! I care more about characters/movies than when the pin was released, and a lot of pins from my main collections were released in that time (Lion King and Robin Hood). As a newer trader, it can be a bit hard to find older pins.
