So far it's been interesting no new pins in sight. Cast members can refuse your pins now.

Even though they're not supposed to.

I've been trading for many years before the pandemic.

Don't bother bringing your pins if you want to be disappointed.

Yeah, it definitely feels different these days. In 2019, I went to WDW and was able to trade for all but 2 pins from the most recent wave. I just got back from WDW this weekend and I was only able to trade for I think 4 of the newest wave’s pins. Definitely was slim pickings.

But I think the price hike for the pins is to blame. When the 2019 pins went to the pouches, PinPics says they were 2 pins for 12.99. The pouches were like $22 or $23 when I just purchased them during this past trip. It is a lot harder to part with a pin at that price. Many parents probably won’t be buying the pin packs just to trade them away when they could buy a different toy at a similar price point.

If a cast member is wearing a lanyard or hip lanyard with exception of green lanyards (kids only) and the cast members refused to trade, get their name and line of business. Report the incident to a manager. You can also leave feedback via the app, need name and hometown.

They don't really even wear the green lanyards anymore.

DLR has some pin boards, generally at the stores. But no the green lanyards aren't a thing here.

I've only seen them turn away pins when it's trivia or diamonds, which are special cases of trading here now.

I was at Downtown Disney last weekend and there were boards available in the World of Disney store and the Pin Traders Kiosk and fortunately no diamond or trivia requirements. However I was pretty sure I spotted scrappers on there.

The boards and lanyards as always are 95% scrappers.

Trivia and diamonds are generally the only way to avoid scrappers. Those are the only situations where cast can insist on real pins.

We had a great time trading at DLR this year! Heaps of cast members with trivia pins that were usually diamond for diamond. Occasionally some good ones on the boards too (we got a few of the bubble wands that way and some of the 2024 hidden Disney).
Definitely ask any cast member you see that has a pin pouch for trivia and you can be surprised ☺️. As long as your pins are legit it’s a great way to trade.

Edit to add - we did have some older pins (real, no diamond) that were fine in 80% of cases to trade for other trivia pins.

Also - the cast members at the advent calendar style boxes were usually less friendly somehow? Idk why but they weren’t super stoked to be there.

Also also we had some amazing cast members rooting for us to finish sets by trading etc and we were very impressed. Talk to them!

Hello - I’ve been absent for a bit (more on that later). But we were at WDW in Oct and Disneyland now. I will say I’ve noticed changes. WDW we had more than one cast member say they would only trade diamond for diamond. Though I convinced a few that my LE Advent Calendars were acceptable. And a few cast members definitely kept good legit pins hidden in pouches until they saw what I had to trade.

At Disneyland we had better luck on the numbered boxes than visible pin boards. However, we also encountered a table with pins in display that they would only trade for if you showed receipt and packaging from a pin bought that day. Which I’m not doing. And that kills the fun for me even more than avoiding fake pins. I’ve already had more fun trading with a few newbie pin trading guests.
