I'm surprised I really haven't seen a post here about error pins. I mean discussing whether folks think being an error pin makes them more desirable or more valuable or not at all. What error pins do folks have? I have a couple that I see if I post up here. I have both the correct pin and it's counterpart error pin for comparison.
 
I don't have any error pins because when I do want to get one people have sticks up their butts and not even look at my pins and claim that I don't have anything that they would want.

Oh well. I do have a small collection but at least lie to me a little bit and humor me by looking at my pins. That is the least the traders can do is humor me and also lie to me. I can handle it better then them not even looking at my pins and telling me that I didn't have anything.
 
Yeah, that's too bad. I hate when traders look down on you.

But do you think that being an error pin makes them more valuable? If you figure PPs and APs represent a handful of each pin run then error pins are even more limited. And we all know how nuts some folks are about PPs and APs. At least that's what I think but I could be alone on this one.
 
I do have some nice pins but apparently not good enough.

I personally think that they are like the PPs and the APs value wise but there are people who are willing to do multi pins for a PP, AP, or a error pin. But most traders like you are too nuts about these pins that they aren't willing to work out a trade and that they only see the value of the pin and that they expect PPs, APs, and other error pins.

So in turn they do have some kind of value because they are harder to find and that there aren't many error pins. I have only seen one error pin in person. That was pin number 24 Pinocchio walking with green hat. The dude looked at me and said no. Didn't even give me a chance to show him what I did. I attempted to trade with this same dude again and he got all butt hurt that I didn't have what he wanted and got even more butt hurt when I said no to buying a pin that he wanted in the store. So after that I steer clear of the dude and I told my fiancé about this because he thought it was odd that I was avoiding them.
 
There are a ton of error pins that Disney releases and does not correct the error. So full runs of error pins are common. Therefore, I do not value an error pin more than I do a correctly done pin. I have several error pins with LE 20, and pinpics will not even let me list them. I have another one that I got straight from Disney, and no one seems to have this error but me, and again, was unable to list it. So what is the point of having it if you cannot even list it?

Pinpics told me that there is no way they could have separate listings for just error pins, because there are way too many. Only error pins that were released with the full run are the ones they will allow to be listed.

Like me? How did I automatically get lumped into that group with the rest of them? I just asked the question for the mere sake of discussion and because it didn't seem to be discussed on here.



I've experienced the same thing with certain traders at DLR before. They think their pins are made out of gold (you know, back when gold was pushing $2k/ounce). You learn who they are and just avoid them. I have no problem if they get bend out of shape because they think I'm avoiding them because you know what, I am.
 

Yeah, that's not cool. Not sure why tho? They list pin 25 and it's an error pin. Maybe they have since stopped that?

You know, you can add additional information to each pin maybe listing that there is an error variety for a particular pin.

Pin 25 has had full runs, meaning they made them with the errors and then again without it, but it was not like they made only a few.

I try to list all of the errors on a pin on pinpics, and this they will add to the description. However, if you encounter that rare low edition error pin that has a full run of perfect pins, they will not let you list your pin, because they say too many people have found just one pin with errors.

For example, I had a Mickey pin, LE 100, where there is a bat in the pin and they forgot to paint it, and the rest are all painted, so mine is considered more of a defect.
 
Smiley. I tend to not look over what I put. I did not mean to lump you with those people. I meant to say like you mentioned are too nuts. I never meant to lump you with them.

Did you ever experience the father/son duo at DLR? They were at Tomorrowland and when DLR closed that down they moved over to Frontierland? The son has a very winey voice. They have wild curly hair. Both wear glasses? They were the ones that had the error pin I mentioned.

 
I had one of the movie poster pins that had the wrong date at the bottom. I was a bit tempted to get the aristocats names pins that have the wrong names at the bottom (theres a pin where Toulous is named Berlioz and vice-versa). I do think it is quite funny and speshul that disney manages to do these mistakes hehe!

I have an error pin of the then and now series Pin #82934. The coin is mounted upside down. the only other pin in this whole series I personally have seen is a little mermaid one(Pin #83750) where the coin was mounted upside down. I also have the Annual passholder halloween in where they transposed Ursula and evil queen names with the characters. I personally do not know if there is any value as say error baseball cards, but I hold the then and now pin at a high personal value for my own reasons. I do think it is fun to find them though!!
 

Well, yes. You bring up a very good point about differentiating between a error pin having a full production run with several thousand pins being produced and distributed (sold) before Disney pulled the plug on them (if they did at all). Kinda like pin #25. While other error pins I would say are manufacturing errors. These are the ones I'm talking about. These are the one that only a few were made because the guy running the machine fell asleep at the wheel. Like drb's 82934 pin or Laura's pin. For example, I have this pin where Walt is upside down relative to the text. My other pin, the banner at the bottom is upside down.

I heard a story once that Disney employees (DLR) were pulling a certain pin off the shelf because it was found they were all in error.

I think this holds true for many people here. I have a feeling very few collect pins because of their rarity alone. People get pins because they like a certain character, series or movie. Of course, if they are completists and there are error pins of their favorite, they have to get one. Then the error pin may hold quite some additional value - but only if it really is a rarity but not an oddity (a single pin with a feature different from the actual design).
 
funny, i must nieve of just love pins too much, and dont examine carefully, because i have quite a few error pins UNINTENTIONALLY! only when i go to log them into pinpics to i see its an error. So what does everyone think about the new 110 series Hercules with the blue leg? Is this an error pin? or just garbage or flawed?
 
Please be careful what you say about people personally. There are alot of people that read these forums and its not fair to single people out. Think if you were to read a description about yourself.....

Cicada, I think that message was towards me and in no way was I creating a personal attack towards anyone. I was describing two people that is all. If it came off that way I am sorry but I was not attacking anyone just describing.

I know what you are talking about, because I received a Stitch experiment pin where Stitch was upside down chasing some weird creature, and I thought it was supposed to be like that. Imagine that! Then I find out only my pin was upside down. I told the trader and they asked me to send it back because they would replace it. I sent it back, got a good one, and they took it back to DLRP, where they could not believe this happened. I guess the upside down bit was very new to them. In any case, I did not value it, because to me, it was a defect caused by some guy sleeping on the job like you say. No one has ever seen another of that particular pin being upside down, so I could have kept it for rarity and then gotten the good one too, and it would have been funny to look at them side by side. Yet, I do not see this Stitch error pin being something that others would want.

In the old days, we thought an error pin was great because you had something no one else had, but these errors started increasing and the frequency of them made an error pin no so rare anymore. Then the scrappers get thrown into the mix when you have an error pin. People will wonder if it is a real error or a scrapper. This is a very interesting topic, and I guess that there will always be some collectors that will want something that is rare in numbers, even if it is an error.
