Evening everyone. I just returned home from my first trip to Walt Disney World and am already thoroughly addicted to Pin Trading (I can thank my sister who was aiming to get her kids into it, but instead sucked me in). I'm a big fan of the classic characters (Mickey, Donald, Pooh & friends), but I'm a sucker for anything and everything Mary Poppins. Some of my favorites so far have Mickey with Walt incorporated into them. Are there any quick tips for a pin trading newbie?
 
Hi there and welcome to the forum! I think that my best advice for you is to just have fun, if you have any pin related questions or topics, you can ask them in the Pin Discussions/FAQ section.
 
Hello and welcome to DPF! The first thing you may want to do (if you haven't already) is to set up an account on www.pinpics.com . Most Disney pins are catalogued there, and it allows you to keep personal lists of the pins in your collection, the pins you want, and the pins you have available for trade. You can also link your pinpics ID to your DPF profile (see the links under profile names when people post), so that other users can compare trades/wants with you.
 

I set up an account, but going through 860+ pages to a) fill in my collection (only 60 some odd pins so far) and b) create a want list is pretty daunting. I have to say, that Maleficent one in your sig (#68827) is pretty awesome looking. Are there any places you can go online to get the stock pins that you can find on the racks at WDW? I checked the online Disney store and they had only a wee fraction of the stuff I saw at Disney last week.

An alternative to going through all of pinpics is to use the search feature. Search for characters or movies or other keywords. I find it a fun pastime to enter keywords and see what comes up! (That's also how I discovered the administrative professionals day pins...)

The best advice I can give you is to select a theme (or maybe a few, depending upon what you choose) to collect in order to limit your collection. If you go with the 'collect everything that is shiny with a pointy back attached' approach, you'll find your collection rapidly growing out of control and your bank account has vanished.

Also, don't be afraid to ask questions. We're a friendly group and I have no doubt that someone (or several someones) will be more than happy to answer any question you might have (plus it's really the best way to learn about these beautiful and highly addictive pieces of metal).

And most importantly: don't forget to have fun!
