Hey guys, I'm new to the forums and very new to pin collecting! In fact I've yet to start

So my name is Molly, and I'm a 20 year old student in Canada! I've always loved everything Disney so I'm really excited to find a hobby like this exists.

I've been reading up on it over the past couple of weeks and it looks like a lot of fun so I want to join in the pin-collecting community! I've got a trip to Disney World planned in May so I'm probably not going to do much trading until then but I would like opinions from you guys about which is a better way to start.

Should I:
1. Buy in bulk of eBay and pay a lot less money but risk getting fake or damaged pins, or
2. Wait until I get to the park and buy a few sets then begin trading with CMs, or
3. Some other smarter option that I haven't even thought of yet.

I need some help! What do you guys think?

Thanks XD

Welcome Molly! I am also new to pin trading too. For me, I saw that Ebay and also people on DPF sell the pin sets at a cheaper price. TBH, they seem legit to me, but it is still possible in obtaining scrappers.

To me, the best scenario to get real pins for cheaper prices is buying pins from the DisneyStore website. Sometimes, the Disneystore website puts their pins on sale and I use their discount coupons on them.

I hope you have an awesome time in WDW! I went last year for my birthday, and it was AMAZING!

Good-luck on trading and collecting!

Hey Molly, welcome to DPF and welcome to pin trading.

I think if you can look through some of the bulk sellers on DPF their are a few of them, scroll through the sales thread and I'm sure you will find some for good prices that will make good traders. It is cheaper to buy on here then when you get to Disney, even though I would get a few at Disney to Always better to go with some pins. Be warned when I went first time I still wished we had more traders .

Just be warned some of the pins on the CM lanyards can be scrapper, but I wouldn't worry to much about this and just have fun with it. I'm sure you will get a lot of good advice Just keep asking questions and people will answer.

Hello and welcome to the forum and to pin trading itself.

In terms of where to buy pins I would be careful on ebay because a lot of sellers, even those with good feedback, sell fakes and scrappers etc. Especially in the cases of pin lots. Its very tempting I know, but it would be so much worse to spend less money on fake pins you can't trade, than it would to just spend a little extra and get real pins.

In terms of looking for pins before you go, I would suggest you do a little searching on the forum - I can't remember the exact thread but I will go searching for it in a minute - but with a little searching you can find some really good deals on here, for single pins and booster sets.
The disney store is also a good place to get pins. You can usually pick up 'starter packs' that come with a lanyard and some pins or booster packs that come with a few pins and aren't too expensive.

I would recommend taking some pins with you to Disney, so that you can really get into trading as soon as you get there. But definitely pick up more pins whilst you're there, even if they are a little expensive, I'm sure you'll find some really nice ones, or ones that you could potentially trade whilst you're there.

The most important thing is to have fun with it though!

Found it! Bricklayer is doing a really good deal which you can find here I'm actually very tempted to get one of these packs myself!

Hope this helps

Thanks for all the help and welcomes guys! That link you sent me looks great TinyHat, I think I'm gonna go for that next week when I get paid! Eeeek exciting

Welcome to the forum, Molly!

I would advise against buying lots on eBay. That's how I started, and I very much regret it, because looking back, I realize I just bought a lot of scrappers, and contributed to the "scrapper disaster" at the park. (Almost all pins on cast member lanyards these days are fake, because of people who trade with the lots on eBay.)

Check out the sales part of the forum here on DPF... There are some DPF members ("Jadestarr" and "Bricklayer" come to mind) who sell GREAT traders for dirt-cheap prices. And they're real!!

Whatever you end up deciding to do, I hope you have a lot of fun! Welcome to the happiest hobby on earth.

welcome to the forums!
stick with this forum for buying pins for sure. most are cheaper than ebay and more personal. everyone here is crazy friendly so enjoy your tine here.

Hello Molly and welcome to the forum! I agree with what others have already said - buy some traders here on the forum. Jadestarr has 7-pin booster packs starting at $5, which is incredibly cheap for pins guaranteed to be authentic.

Whereabouts in Canada are you? I'm in Pickering, just east of Toronto.

Hey there! Welcome to the forum!

as for the advice, I'd say steer clear of those mega lots on eBay. They're almost always completely full of scrappers. As someone else mentioned, jadestar has an AWESOME stock up dale going on now where you can get some very cheap booster sets! I bought some and they're great! That would be my suggestion. Welcome from a fellow newbie and have fun!
