hi - I just joined after being aware of the DPF for a month or so. I recently moved to CA from Canada (although I have lived in the states before) I have been into My D Pins and learned a lot I didn't know about the whole collecting/ trading thing- I am for sure a hobby trader at this point and I am picky - for example I really like the Haunted Mansion pins - i have some awesome ones - But there are a bunch out there that are - less than awesome, in my humble opinion - so I guess that makes me a fussy trader?

How do you guys do this? do you trade or sell or what if you have a pin I want but I don't have anything you want ? Where can I go to meet people like you ? HAHA - this must sound like I have no idea what i am doing... well not yet

there seem like a lot of threads and I have barely begun this trip, so pardon the inane questions

First, don't apologize for the questions. In my opinion, that's the best way to learn. Remember that even the most experienced pin trader was once a beginner and had to start off somewhere.

The way we do this is, quite literally, one pin at a time. There's nothing wrong with being fussy about pins. I only wish I was pickier about my pins when I first started. I believe that when it comes to your collection, the best pins are the ones you love and will make you happy; it's really that simple.

As far as how to 'do' this, sometimes you can trade or buy/sell to acquire the desired pins, but if you're on Disney property, the only purchasing better be from Disney (you're only allowed to trade with other people). If I have a pin you want, what happens? It really just depends upon the pin in question. I apologize, but I'm about to toss out some vocabulary you may not know: if it's just a hidden mickey pin worth $5, I'll probably just gift it to you. If it's an LE 100 pin worth $450, I'd probably apologize and say that the pin likely isn't going anywhere anytime soon and we can try to work something out another time (or I might offer to hold it for you for a while so you can get something I want for it). But each trader is different; other people may handle that situation differently (and probably will). Some might offer to sell it to you, provided they're not on Disney property (I don't like to sell my pins, for example, but others don't mind).

As far as where to meet up, there are bimonthly Pin Trading Nights at Disneyland. You already know about My D-Pins. Also, Disney World has an annual pin event in September-ish that many people travel out for (but more on that later as the event gets closer). Plus you might be surprised at how many people you'll probably meet at GSF, queueing for those PTDs (or so I've heard).

Welcome to the Forum! It's a great place to learn all about pin trading and collecting. The best advice I can give you is to read the posts like crazy and ask questions when they come up!
 
ok _ where so I go to find a list of all the pins you guys are showing as banners? some people list that they want certain ones - are the other ones - peoples favourite? I will wander through for a bit and come back here if I can't find the info - ok?
