Hello everyone! My name is Phil and I am new to this site. I have been reading the posts for the last three days about the Disney Limited Edition Dolls to gather more information and insight. Right now I have allot of time on my hands working in Afghanistan for the Army and I admit that I enjoy the challenge of finding these dolls to complete my daughters collection. Aleigha is her name and she is 7, hence the screen name. I have managed within the last few days to find the last 2 dolls to complete her 12 doll collection, again lots of time to kill. Alice was not cheap $800+ and Queen of Hearts $200+, I have Merida & Elinor preordered and will have them picked up on the 13th of November.
My wife has managed to tear away my rough exterior after retirement from the Army and get me involved with this new adventure. Its all about my kids now and what I can give them for standing by me for the last 23 years in the military. So, enough of the soft stuff, I do have some questions because like I said I am somewhat a novice at this. The SGT Calhoun doll that will be out on the 2nd of November is this doll considered part of the Disney Limited Collection I have Now? I am confused because her size is 1" shorter and comes with a different box. Does anyone know for sure if Tinker Bell will be considered part of the collection in February?
One last question does the value of the dolls go down if the box is opened? So we have managed to refrain from opening them, we don't even know the sequence numbers yet and my wife has been doing this since 2009, we are scared to even try to find out.
Ok, am I even in the right Disney forum? I see all these blogs about Pins? What pins I'm a little out touch here with all this, should I be collecting these pins as well? Are they expensive, where do I start?

Hi there Phil and welcome to DPF.

While the other Disney collections forums have soared since the Designer Dolls have been released, Pin-Trading/collecting is a hobby that the great majority of the members here take part in and is the main reason for this site's existence. Most get into the bug when they first CM pin trade at the parks or find that one pin they're trying to find more information about.

Many of the members do have quite extensive doll collections and more. If you want your more specific questions answered, it would be best to post those questions in that part of the forum. As a general rule, most collectibles though retain a higher resale value if it left in pristine condition, which includes unopened packaging.

Welcome to DPF, Phil! You don't have to be collecting pins to be a part of this community. There are forum threads for other Disney collectibles, such as dolls :)

welcome phil!

i collect pins and dolls mostly all the LE disney store items and NBC, Stitch, alice, tink pins with some random ones.
for the dolls well there are the 17"/18" which are the same series (which i personally think the jessie doll, buzz and woody, and new sgt from wreck it ralf are included in this series). they usually come out when a new movie comes out in thearters like for example wreck it ralf and brave and they also release them when they come out on blu ray release on some, also on the day of the release sometimes they have surprise dolls like lady tremaine. the designer collection has only been in the fall for the past two years first was 10 princesses plus the silver cindy from d23 exclusive, that was 2011 designer princess collection. this year is designer villians which is only 6 bigger edition and bigger price tag then the princesses. tjkhe value of the doll depends on many factors most people dont want them to be ever open. but you can find the COA of the dolls all you have to do is take the plastic off its on the bottom of the doll. i suggest if you will sell them i wouldnt bother. dont want to accedently wreck them.

pins well i do it for fun i go to the parks and buy a pack of pins and trade with castmembers for pins i like. it is expensive well i think because i do go to disneyland to trade every weekend lol. but just ask around there are lots of ways to trade pins.
