Hey everyone. My name is Trish and I am new to pin collecting. The family and I recently went to Orlando for vacation. We were not able to go to WDW for financial reasons, however, Downtown Disney was pretty awesome too. I read about pin collecting prior to going and thought I would check out the store at Downtown. Before I ever got there though, I made a stop at the local Wal-Mart and seen some pins there. Yes I know they are not Disney issued, but were so cute I had to pick a few up. Once I made it to Downtown though, I was hooked for sure. There were so many to choose from. I spent more time and money in that store then I intended to, but it was so worth it. SO I have not really done the trading thing, just because I love my pins that I have and really want to keep them. FOr now, I will just collect!! I do have a couple questions though. I have looked through the forums and may just be overlooking what I want to know. Here goes, first of all, is there a way I can look up my pins to see what they are worth? Is there a guide or pdf thing I can look at? I know I don't have anything worth anything right now, but eventually. Also what is the Pin Pics site? I have looked through it, but not sure exactly what it is for. Ok that is enough about me and my ramblings. I am sooooooo looking forward to getting more pins. I am trying to make a book for them.

Thanks for reading..Have a PINtastic day!!!!!!!!

Oh yes, and a good site to buy more pins?? I know there are the scrappers and things, but is there a place other then the Disney website that you can buy pins??

Well as i am sure many will chime in.....get a pinpics ID and start logging in your pins. When you find your pin there will be a good deal of information on the pin and how many people are trading and wanting that pin. It will tell you how much the pin sold for originally. Now someone may know more, but there isnt an offical pricing guide for reselling pins. That is why on ebay you can see the same pin selling for $10,$20 and $30 ----pins values have alot of sentiment involved. As far as buying, i am not gonna give advice.....but i will say as a rule of thumb the great folks on here are on average a good place to look. There are the buy/sell threads. More trustworthy than ebay sellers, but always check feedback before you buy anyplace. Perhaps we will trade one day!

Hi Trish
First off Welcome to DPF!You can buy pins from here on our sales forum..some folks sell in pinlots,or you could chance it on Ebay
but you could possibly end up with scrappers..I usually buy mine here on DPF!You can go to www.pinpics.com
You can list your trades/collection and wants there...on PP just type in the description be very specific so you do not pull every pin up
and you could possibly find yours there..if you ever wanna trade look me up..I love trading wth Newbies like yourself...and just wondering
what theme are you going after to collect?

Thanks for the info Dawny. I will see about getting the pinpics id soon. I only have a few that are actual "Disney" pins. But will get those going. And I am looking now at the pins for sale on here. There are alot to look at for sure!! I could be up all night looking at them.

TiggerMickey, thanks for the welcome. I am not sure about trading yet. I don't have alot, but right now for sure want to keep my "first pins". I know in time I will probably trade, but I am enjoying seeing all the different pins. I am not really sure of a theme that I will go for, more just what looks pretty to me. I like the Princess ones of course, but aside from that, All is fair game.

Aloha Trish and Welcome! :wavey:

To answer your questions ... in a nutshell, Pin Pics is a database of pins. You can use it to look up pins, and if you've created an account (listed pins that you own, would like to own, and have and are willing to trade), you can use it to as a device to facilitate trades through the post.

If you're looking for a printed guide, you *can* use Tomarts, but I would advise that you take anything printed in this with at least a barrel of salt. You have to remember that Tomarts is just one opinion of what pins are worth and, really, is best used as a guideline for value and an easily portable index. However, since we're in the age of smart phones and tablets, I think looking up the pins on Pin Pics or eBay is much more reliable as Tomarts is a printed work and, consequently, inherently out of date from the time it comes out and unable to take into account value fluctuations.

Finally, as someone said, if you want to buy pins from a website other than Disney, take a look at our sale boards. However, I would strongly recommend that you always check references/feedback before purchasing and always use common sense before making any purchase or trade. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is - and never make a purchase or sale unless you are 100% comfortable with it.

Hope this helps get you started and, again, welcome! :)

Welcome, Trish! I'm a newbie, too. Glad to see someone else trying to work their way through how this all works. Good luck on your princess collection! :)

Welcome to DPF! Give yourself some time, you'll learn the ropes of pin trading! Definitely get yourself signed up o PinPics, and take some time to explore the threads here on DPF. There's a lot that can be learned from some pretty great pin traders here.

Seems like all your questions have been answered already so I'll just say hello and welcome! And yes its a good idea to sign up on pinpics too.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. It's nice to have my questions answered so quickly. Good to know the site is still pretty active. I do have one more question. Do they have pins in the Disney Stores. For example, I am a couple days away from WDW so not a quick trip to check out pins. However, I do have a Disney store just about an hour away in Branson. So before I made the drive for pins, do you know if they carry them typically in just the regular stores? I thought about making a trip there before the busy season really started if I could, even if they don't have pins, it would be fun just to go.
I have started a pinpic account and still trying to figure out how all that works. So I am heading over there now to check out some more pins.

Thanks again for all the great help!!

I believe that some Disney Stores carry pins and others don't. I happen to live close enough to DLR than the Disney Stores closest to me don't (or if they do, I've been completely oblivious to their existence for years). My suggestion ... phone the Disney Store in question and ask if it carries pins (or has them in stock) before you drive out there if that would be the only reason you would be making the hour-long drive. I can't imagine that *someone* wouldn't know the store's inventory and be able to tell you whether the store carries pins - and whether or not they're currently in stock (however, you might have to call multiple times or get switched to different people before you find someone who knows the situation).
