Why are they so expensive and hard to come by? Is there a particular reason?

They are really neat pins, I seem to find all pins released from Japan are like gold dust to have. Why is this?

Japan pins in general are hard to get. I don't think there are a whole lot of Internet pin traders there. Especially for older pins, there were probably very few that traded via Pinpics at that time.

They have their own forums and collectibles market. Plus, some of them just went to the regular folks (tourists looking for souvenirs), and probably ended up in the trash when people would clean/purge. Japan is actually just coming around to the secondary market aspect...like second-hand stores and such. They're not as common as they are in the US.

Add in the language barrier, and you've got a whole lot of difficulty in exchanging pins...especially the older ones in the early or Pre-Pinpics days.

I'm having the same issue with trading Duffy stuff with them...

Won't it be an awesome day when our programs can finally translate accurately and language isn't a barrier anymore?
