Long time collector, first time poster
Hello everyone,
My name is Jayme. I am 27 and have been collecting and trading pins since 2007. I have been reading and watching this forum for almost a year now but didn’t feel very connected, as living in Illinois has made it hard to get pins. However, I am moving to Tallahassee, FL later this month for my doctoral internship. I am so excited to be moving to Florida and can’t wait to take weekend trips to Disney. Even though it is still a 4-hour drive, this seems like nothing when it used to take my family 2 days to drive.
I would primarily consider myself a collector because once I have a pin in hand, even if I don’t like it all that much, I have a hard time letting go of it. Additionally, most of my pins have been gifts or represent something special which makes it that much harder to see them go. This hasn’t really been a problem, though, as I have only been able trade when on vacation at Disney World (my graduate school schedule didn’t match the schedule of the post office for online trading). When at the parks I usually stick to cast member trading because I really like meeting the cast members and I like to trade one pin for the entire day and see how it transforms from the first trade to the last.
I don’t really have a certain “collection†or “theme†to my pins – I just get pins that are appealing. The ones I tend to be most attracted to, though, are:
Haunted mansion
Tennis pins (especially Minnie and Mickey playing)
Dancers and dancing pins
Monster’s Inc (especially Sulley)
Oliver & Company
Characters dressed as other characters (especially Minnie and Tinker Bell dressed as others)
Jumbos (I really like pins that are big)
Attraction and park pins (especially ones from parades)
Peter Pan (and Neverland friends)
I look forward to meeting people on the forum and can hopefully meet some people in the parks eventually. If anyone knows of places to buy pins (antique malls, stores other than the Disney store) in the Tallahassee area I’d love to hear about them. I am already looking forward to my first time driving to Disney so I can stop at a Walmart to try and get some of the Jerry Leigh pins.
