Hello everyone! My name is Gabby and I'm brand new to pin trading and to this forum. I just did my very first Pinpics trade yesterday! I live in Orlando, so my boyfriend and I got into pins after we got WDW annual passes last month (by that I mean I dragged him along into my new obsession!). We started out just trading cheap pins with cast members and recently invested in our first LE pins during a visit to Epcot. My boyfriend is really into Star Wars, and some of my favorite characters are Alice, Lady, and Belle.

For those of you who are also regular park-goers, do you have any tips/strategies? Where are the best places to get pins (especially LEs), and how do you know which pins are worth buying at the stores?

Do you have any tips for building a collection on a budget? We don't want to contribute to the scrapper/counterfeit problem, but we are also college students so we're definitely on a budget. Any advice as to how to build your collection and your trading "power" (for lack of a better word) without completely breaking the bank?

Hopefully a WDW local will chime in, but each park has a pin store which has LE pins. The DTD store seems to have the most. Also, at least one of the deluxe resorts has a store that sells pins (Contemporary.)

Well, if you're looking for cheap traders to trade at the parks, you can usually find people selling them for $1-2 per pin, shipped with a minimum amount to purchase.

It is pretty difficult to trade newer pins for older pins unless it's done within the first day or two of the release (before everyone else tries to undercut each other).

Focus on what you want to collect. If you're active in social media, look to Instagram and Facebook. I'm primarily on FB than IG, but that's because I haven't figured out how to use IG well.

As far as what is out or what will be out that will be "hot" to be able to trade, since next year's pin event's theme is Pixar, WDW appears to be releasing some "countdown to the event" pins. UP and Wall-E are the more popular themes for Pixar movies, but again, you'll need to try to trade within the first day or two, otherwise the undercutting happens and people just try to unload the pins.

It's my understanding that Disney Pin Traders in Downtown Disney/ Disney Springs is the best place to purchase LE pins. There are tables in Epcot near Spaceship Earth that are frequently used for pin trading as well. As for what pins will have high trade value, that's tough to say. Sometimes the Open Edition pins seem to become favorites, but that can take awhile (months/years?) to see return on that purchase, just because OE pins are in production longer. Living that close to the parks I would guess LE pins will be your best opportunity to build high value "traders."

When I went I found the best stock of LE variety wise was either The Contemporary Resort or Hollywood Studios (halfway along Sunset Boulevard , past Villains enough Vogue) , both had older LE pins still available .
If you're thinking about CM trading I found the best pickings at the resorts and Epcot , MK was the worst for that .

Hey, welcome to the hobby! I live in Cali so I'm a frequent Disneyland goer myself, one day I hope to go to WDW.

As for making great traders without breaking the bank, it can be a little difficult at first. Some pins are super expensive if you decide to get really serious about pin trading, but trading with cast members at the park can be really fun. If you're looking to do that then just keep an eye out for people that sell pins in bulks. Just be careful to take note if they are scrappers or not. Sometimes you can tell by looking at the pictures, but this is not always the case. If it says "Tradeable at the parks" then most of the time it will be a set with scrappers. Since scrappers are technically tradeable at the park since cast members won't turn them away, that statement does nothing to prove if they're official or not. If anything just pay attention to their listings. If a seller has 10+ pin lots for sale, those are most likely scrappers.
