Hi everybody,

I am new to pin trading, although I have been "casually" buying pins at WDW for several years. I am really excited to begin a new hobby/activity, and I will nedd lots of help, I'm sure! I was so excited at first about this, that I went on eBay and bought a load of-you guessed it-scrappers!
Fortunately, I did not trade any of them, so I looked the lot over according to the guidelines I had, and pitched the ones that looked scrappy. Since most of the ones I pitched were the simple hidden mickeys, my pin motto is "easy to make, easy to fake". BTW, has anyone else had experience with the Mystery sets at Disney being kind of rough-edged and crummy? I bought a couple in November that did not look very good-so much so that I nearly pitched them with the scrappers!

Everybody have a good weekend-we are sliding around on sleet and ice here in Indy!

Welcome to the forum!

Scrappers and counterfeit pins are a bummer, but they do make the chase, of particular pins, more interesting. Or at least that is how I have come to terms with the issue. My wife and I have gotten better at identifying scrappers and fakes, but we still pick up a fair amount of them.

We are going to assemble a small book, as an educational reference, to help us identify these less than desirable pins. Some are quite obvious and others are merely questionable.

I guess my whole point is that we are trying not to let the fakes and scrappers ruin our pin trading fun. Just trying to turn a positive into a negative.

And, for the record, we never trade known fakes and scrappers to anyone. We take the loss and keep those things out of circulation. They remain in our keeper sets, until we find a good one, or they go in the fake/scrapper bag.

Hey, welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear about your scrapper lot. Same thing happened to me when I first started, but no worries! Hope you have a great time here

Aloha and Welcome! :wavey:

You've definitely found a wonderful place for help - and friends. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask - I'm sure that someone (or several someones) will be more than happy to answer them for you. :)

Also, I'm very sorry to read that you've been having issues with the pins that you've purchased. Pins like that are everywhere, unfortunately, and the only thing you can do is be informed - and even then, you'll probably end up inadvertently acquiring at least a few anyway. However if I may offer an alternative to throwing away these pins when you do find that you've acquired them? Have you considered using these pins as thumb tacks for a cork board or, even, removing the pin backs and converting them to magnets instead of just tossing them? This way you're still taking them out of circulation and getting some practical use from pins that normally would be useless.

Hi and welcome! Hope to trade sometime, and if you want some inexpensive fun pins i have a bunch for sale....just peek at my traders or look under the sale thred til you find "started by dawny!" I have been trying to think of some crafty (im not but ill try) things to do with scrappers...and i may try my hand at making some fun coasters....keep everyone posted if they come out cute.

Welcome to the forum!

There are loads of things to do with your scrappers.
I would make rings out of them. Remove the tack part and attach an adjustable ring to it.

I use the scrappers I (and the ones others send into me - thanks again ya'll!) find as motivators or treasure box stuffers for my kiddos at school. I have one young boy with autism who is currently working for the Muppets series and is doing well on his behavior plan now because of the pins. :'D We also donate them to the Autism Walk as prizes for the free children's games.

There are all sorts of things to do with them! Magnets, rings, tack pins for bulletin boards, scrapbooking . . . you name it, it can be done (okay, well almost anything. . lol)!
